Wreck – Episode 3 – Showtime! – Recap

Wreck – Episode 3 – Showtime! – Recap

Showtime!

Director: Chris Baugh

Writer: Ryan J Brown (Screenplay)

Cast

  • Oscar Kennedy
  • Thaddea Graham
  • Alice Nokes
  • Jodie Tyack
  • Georgia Goodman

Plot: It’s a big day on the ship – The Captain’s Ball, attended by the VIP guests. Jamie shares An intimate moment with Olly whilst Vivian cosies up to Lily, one of the guests, risking big repercussions if she’s caught. Jamie and Vivian gather enough evidence to go to the authorities about Pippa’s disappearance, they just need the Entertainment Crew to back them up. However, these guys are running their own illegal enterprise and want nowhere near the police, unless Jamie does them a dangerous favour first. As the Captain’s Ball draws to a close, a crew member close to home is put in grave danger.

Runtime: 45 Minutes

There will be spoilers in the rest of the recap

Story: Showtime! Starts by showing what Pippa was up to on her journeys, picking up supplies for the party side of life on the cruise. Meanwhile, Jamie and the rest of the crew are preparing for the Captain’s Ball. Jamie looks to get closer to Sophia, informing her that he was the one who called the police, with a detective arriving on board.

With Jamie getting closer to Ollie, Vivian finds herself drawn to a passenger Lily. Elsewhere Cormac is forced to run around the ship during an inspection of the crew’s quarters. Detective Martinez arrives on board to investigate Danny’s death, where the crew continue to try and hide it as a suicide.

Jamie goes on to confront Ollie about the attack last episode, revealing it was more gang scares. It was never going to be dangerous. Meanwhile, Cormac stumbles upon who has the tattoo after getting caught trapped in a closet. Jamie goes on to learn who is the head of the Filipino mafia on board. It isn’t until the closing sequence we get to see the next death, one that doesn’t seem to make as much sense in the bigger picture of everything.

Verdict on Showtime!

Showtime! Continues to build the gang war on board, as the story keeps moving away from the slasher inspiration the opening episode suggested. It shows how Jamie has gotten into more trouble than he bargained for.

Having a detective not getting much discovered doesn’t help along the way. The teasing romances for Vivian and Jamie seem to be taking more centre stage. While Cormac still continues to be the most entertaining character in the series.

When the episode does end with excellent effects behind the latest death, it still doesn’t bring us enough of the creepy duck figure that could easily become the icon of the series.

Where to Watch: Wreck is available on BBC iPlayer Now.

Final Thoughts Showtime! Teases the mystery but doesn’t seem to move the story along enough.

Wreck – Episode 2 – Catch of the Day – Recap

Wreck – Episode 2 – Catch of the Day – Recap

Catch of the Day

Director: Chris Baugh

Writer: Ryan J Brown (Screenplay)

Cast

  • Oscar Kennedy
  • Thaddea Graham
  • Alice Nokes
  • Jodie Tyack
  • Georgia Goodman

Plot: Jamie wakes up with the hangover from hell but is determined to get his investigation back on track. Trusting fellow newbie Vivian enough to let her in on his real reason for being on the ship, they begin forming a plan, which is immediately derailed when they receive grim news about a fellow crew member. However, Jamie and Vivian catch a break, finding a clue that leads them to asking dreamboat Olly for a big favour, one that will bring them down to the ship’s engine room and face to face with The Baby, a fearsome figure in the ship’s Filipino ‘mafia’ one of the many tribes onboard.

Runtime: 44 Minutes

There will be spoilers in the rest of the recap

Story: Catch of the Day starts by going back to before Pippa (Tyack) was part of the crew. Seeing how her decision to leave Jamie (Kennedy) alone with their alcoholic father could be dangerous. Returning to the ship, we see the aftermath of the party and the clean-up work left for one person to do. This also leads to the discovery of the latest victim’s body.

Jamie and Vivian look to continue their investigation, only to learn that Danny was the latest victim. After being told it was suicide, they learn the truth, as Sophia (Nokes) looks to continue the business on the side. But is scared that her safety isn’t guaranteed anymore. Meanwhile, Jamie goes deep into the ship, getting access to a secretive group for clues to who might have been after his sister.

While the rest of the crew looks to grieve Danny’s death, Jamie gets his first encounter with a mysterious masked figure. Once the figure has escaped, the mask reveals their true identity. But are they really the killer?

Verdict on Catch of the Day

Catch of the Day continues to build up the mystery about what happened to Jamie’s sister. Jamie and Vivian continue to be excellent to watch their amateur detective act. On the other side of things, Cormac continues to get most of the laughs, being trapped in the cabin. Meanwhile, Sophia’s operation starts to build a more dangerous side that Jamie isn’t prepared for.

This episode does continue to bring the laughs, which is great to watch. Sadly, we don’t seem to get much of the slasher side of things here, with only one small moment of suspense in this episode.

Where to Watch: Wreck is available on BBC iPlayer Now.

Final Thoughts Catch of the Day continues to build the characters and gets the laughs but lacks suspense in this episode.

Winner – Ricochet

Match 2 – Shinsuke Nakamura vs Ludwig Kaiser

If Nakamura beats Ludwig, he will get to face Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship. In a solid back—forth, Nakamura picks up the win to become the number one contender.

Winner – Nakamura

A dream match next week on Smackdown, Shinsuke Nakamura vs Gunther.

Time for a flashback to the Viking Raiders and New Day clashing over the last few weeks, as the Raiders left Xavier Woods injured, leaving Kofi Kingston on his own to address the Raiders.

Sami Zayn continues to try to get in contact with Roman, with the Usos sending him on jobs they claim Paul Heyman usually does.

Liv Morgan is up next to address the controversial finish to her match with Ronda Rousey. The fans start to turn on Liv because of the ending of the match, booing her, in a shocking turn of events, claiming she only tapped after she thought the pinfall has been counted.

This leads into the next match, the women’s gauntlet match to see who faces Liv Morgan at Clash at the Castle.

Match 3 – Women’s Gauntlet Match

Sonya Deville vs Aaliyah in a short first-round match, Sonya Deville knocks out Aaliyah.

Raquel Rodriguez enters next, straight into dominating performance against Sonya. Until Sonya slows it down to her pace.

The crowd continue to give mixed responses to Liv and ringside, including calling out her Tapping Out, Ronda Rousey and supportive Liv Morgan chants.

Raquel Rodriguez advances to the next match against Shotzi, where Raquel gets the elimination before Xia Li enters next. Despite a dominant series of strikes from Xia Li, Raquel eliminates her too. Natalya is next, looking to use her experience to finish off Raquel. Raquel continues to overcome the odds, but last up is the dangerous Shanya Baszler. For a gauntlet match, this was a lot shorter than we usually see, not giving the talent enough time to shine.

Winner – Shayna Baszler

Sami continues to try and see Roman when the Usos send him away again, unless he starts pulling his weight in the group.

Match 4 – The Viking Raiders vs Two local talents

The Viking Raiders dominate the young team, showing the ruthless nature they have returned with.

Winners – The Viking Raiders

Post-Match, Kofi Kingston launches an attack on the Raiders, standing tall with a kendo stick.

Match 5 – Kofi Kingston vs Erik

In another power vs speed match, this lets Erik show more powerful moves than in recent months but a distraction from Ivar, lets Erik back in the match before Kofi gets a quick roll-up victory.

Winner – Kofi Kingston

The Women’s Tag Team Championship Tournament starts on Monday Night Raw

Closing the show, Roman Reigns makes his presence known to address his upcoming match with Drew McIntyre. In the typical victory speech that gets interrupted by Drew McIntyre, who wants to fight now, only to get interrupted by Karrion Kross. Beating down Drew and living the hourglass with Roman Reigns.

Triple H continues to start making his early statement by pushing the talent who set his NXT to light and a returning Karrion Kross straight into the main event picture is massive.

Recap of Resident Evil – Episode 8 – Revelations

Recap of Resident Evil – Episode 8 – Revelations

Revelations

Director: Rachel Goldberg

Cast:

There will be spoilers for the episode below

Recap of Resident Evil Episode 8 Revelations

Starting in 2030 (yay another timeline) Jade discovers an infected lizard on the ship the crew are floating around in, leading to the reveal of the giant contained crocodile attached to the ship.

In 2022, Jade and Billie are given five minutes to pack before they are relocated. Meanwhile, Burt answers questions about his behaviour to Evelyn, who starts to question his relationship with Albert. She is promising him a chance to be free, after spending the last few years locked up here. As long as he works with her on a project. She reveals the original Wesker is kept in a containment bunker.

In 2036, Billie is looking for a solution to the infected surrounding her base, while Jade is planning her own escape, knowing she is immune from their attention. Billie always is resourceful and has the salutation that eliminates nearly all the infected, but the distraction lets Jade escape back to her ship. Jade gets the crocodile released.

Back in 2022, Evelyn finally learns it was Billie who was the one bitten and warns her about the infection that is running through her blood. Meanwhile, Jade turns to Simon for help again, knowing he could be the only one to help break Billie back out. As he revealed Simon’s mother had drugged her wife with the ‘Joy’ pill.

Recap on Resident Evil Episode 8 Revelations

Returning to 2036, the crocodile looks to deal with Billie, when Jade realizes her daughter Bea has listened to her advice to leave as the ship is sailing off into the sunset. Jade and her husband return to shore to search for Bea. Elsewhere, Billie deals with the crocodile, that comes back to cause problems for the couple.

In 2022, Jade and Simon work together to break into Umbrella. Meanwhile, Billie is having side effects from the latest injections, showing her violent side in her. She finds Burt who can calm her down and help her search for her father. As the family gets reunited, they have ten minutes to escape before lockdown.

During the panic, Billie has one of her visions, causing her to react to Simon supporting her, biting him. Evelyn has the tables turned in her, needing to decide whether to trust Albert or eliminate the problem. She picks the quick solution, leading to a shootout between all sides, as Albert looks to save his daughters. This will lead to Albert looking to make the ultimate sacrifice to save his daughters, as he causes a massive explosion in the facility. Jade, Billie and Burt head off in the night. Meanwhile, in the rumble the creatures hand comes out.

Back in 2036, Jade washed up ashore finding her husband seriously injured, with the need to find Bea being the most important part of their time together. Meanwhile, Billie is looking to escape on the last helicopter out of the area, escaping the crocodile, who has found a new target, Bea. Only for a connection between the two stopping any bloodshed. As the pair get reunited and Billie looks to complete her mission. Confronting her sister about the night that changed everything in 2022. Billie finishes her mission by shooting Jade and taking Bea.

What to look out for next season?

Will we meet any of the other characters from the game?

What does older Billie want with Bea?

Will older Jade come back stronger?

How many Weskers are there?

What actually caused the outbreak in the first place?

Short Thoughts

In what is an all-action final episode to the series, we are left with a giant creature, that could be from any creature feature. Very little from the biggest legacy characters in the series and more questions than answers.

For the series this does feel disappointing because it promised so much from the opening episodes, only to get bogged down in high school drama. There is so much that makes this feel empty by not including any of the characters from the games or movies. Yes, I know Wesker is in it, but he is nothing like the one we met in the films.

It also leaves the biggest cliffhanger in the final scene, one that would introduce a bigger legacy creature to the world.

Final Thoughts: For the action it is fun, but for storytelling, this just disappoints on every level. 2/5

Recap of Resident Evil – Episode 7 – Parasite

Recap of Resident Evil – Episode 7 – Parasite

Parasite

Director: Batan Silva

Cast:

There will be spoilers for the episode below

Recap of Resident Evil Episode 7 Parasite

We start back in 2005 here, where Albert Wesker works with his brothers for a strict version of Albert, who gets discovered, wanting to clear up the evidence. That he has been cloning himself. Discovered by Evelyn who wants answers.

Move back to 2022, Albert gets to his dim-witted clone Burt who has been locked up since the discovery. The pair look to catch up before getting interrupted.

Back in 2036, Jade is dealing with the consequences of her actions. Needing to face the reality of what she did that got her friend killed. She is locked up as Umbrella want a meeting. The two sides are clearly waiting to go into conflict. Jade is looking to prepare her own daughter for the dangers that would come for her, begging her to plan for her escape.

In 2022, Albert is being pressed by Evelyn who is determined to get the product out and wants to know why he killed Angel. Billie and Jade try to continue their normal routine, which sees the appearance of Burt in their lives. They can see the difference, but don’t think too much about it. Burt doesn’t know how to keep a secret and tells the girls everything. As Evelyn looks to test the drugs closer to home.

In 2036, Jade has accepted to give herself up to Umbrella, if it means the rest of the ship can be safe. Jade has a meeting with Billie, releasing the specimen she created, attracting every infected from around.

Meanwhile, in 2022, Jade and Billie are taken to Evelyn. Taking them to meet their father, revealing that he needs to inject them with blood every day to keep him maintained.

What to look out for next time?

What is that creature on the ship?

How will Jade and Billie escape in 2036?

What is next for Billie and Jade in 2022?

How Many Albert Weskers are there?

Short Thoughts

Lance Reddick takes an amazing twist on what we have seen from him so far, bringing a comedic streak, which will make you laugh out loud.

When it comes to the two timelines, they both have left the series open for the final. With the infected coming for the Umbrella crew in 2036 and in 2022 the girls need to figure out their future.

We are still waiting for the big breakout in 2022, which is better than being the cliff-hanger hoping to get a new season. Elsewhere, nothing feels as connected as it could be on this side of the story.

Final Thoughts: This is a building episode looking to draw us in for the season finale, which is fine, it has plenty left to answer and the chaos is here. Just not enough is going on in the bigger picture. 2/5
