Story: Fast X starts when Dominic Toretto (Diesel) gets a surprise visit from Cipher (Theron). She has come to warn him about a new threat Dante Reyes, the son of Hernan Reyes. Meanwhile, Roman (Gibson) has been tasked with leading a mission with Tej (Ludacris), Ramsey (Emmanuel) and Han (Kang).
However, this was a trap, to give Dante a chance to make Dominic and his family the most wanted people in the world. Dom must do everything he can to figure out what Dante wants and stop him before he takes his family, when he wants to make them suffer.
Verdict on Fast X
Fast X does make an interesting decision with the characters this time around. Dominic must use his connection to get close to Dante to understand who he really is. He spends a lot of the film alone and away from the core group.
Roman, Tej, Ramsey and Han have their own story where they are trying to get back home after the mission goes wrong. It sees them having connections and meeting people along the way. Their side of the story tends to get more laughs along the way.
Letty gets teamed up with Cipher is a weaker Hobbs and Shaw dynamic where they seem to lack the chemistry to work together. However, their fights are entertaining.
Jakob returns and spends most of the movie on a road trip with his nephew. In what is a strange turn from the stern emotionless mercenary we saw last time. We get a more human figure that has a few more laughs along the way.
We do get a few newcomers, Tess Mr Nobody’s daughter who is working for the agency. She doesn’t believe that Dom’s team committed the crimes and looks to help them out. We get extended family members joining in the action, Isabel, Dom’s son’s Auntie and Grandma Abuelita who wants to keep the family together. Along with the returning Mr Nobody who seemingly vanishes.
The true star of the show is Dante, the new villain. He is the son of the drug lord killed in Fast 5. Dante has spent his time planning his revenge on Dominic wanting to make sure he suffers before getting killed. A true eccentric figure that steals the how movie.
We get another adventure for the crew, however, this feels much more personal. The crew face odds they have never faced before, with Dante hiring any mercenary to track them down. We do get a decision to split the crew up for their own little missions. Each one tends to have elements of a different tone about it.
This manages to reach a new level of personal when it comes to what Dante wants. While it still manages to make former enemies, friends stop a bigger threat. We get the massive car chases including an outstanding sequence through Rome. This delivers everything we have come to expect and doesn’t hold back on anything. Just go in and enjoy the movie, it is bigger and more ambitious with the bigger picture this time around.
Final Thoughts – Fast X is a fantastic adrenaline ride for the franchise.
