Troll Hunter (2010)

Director: Andre Ovredal

Writer: Andre Ovredal

Starring: Otto Jespersen, Glenn Erland Tosterud, Johanna Morck, Toham Alf Larsen, Urmila Berg-Domaas, Hans Morten Hansen

Story When a group of teenagers Thomas (Erland Tosterud) Johanna (Morck) and Kalee (Alf Larsen) investigate mysterious bear killings they hear about a man who isn’t the bear hunter and start to trail him. The man Hans (Jespersen) reluctantly lets them join him.

Hans is not you average hunter, he is a troll hunter and teenagers are sceptical of his stories until they come face to face with a troll. They learn all about a government cover up lead by Finn (Morten Hansen) to keep the existence of trolls out of the public knowledge.

Hans continues to show the teenagers who document each event and learn about different types of trolls, different ways to kill them and how much of a cover up is going on. The movie is a found footage of their journey.

Verdict Found footage movies are all the range following on from such hits as Paranormal Activity, {Rec} and Blair Witch Project, this Norwegian offering really is up there with one of the best. It has a feel of District 9 where the government knows what is going on and one of the leads is acting like it is an everyday job.

It has a very real feel about it all the way through with the very realistic looking trolls created. The end adds some very real factors to the story appealing for information on the whereabouts of the teenagers involved in the footage. Everything overall feels very fresh on with the movie from start to finish and it is very enjoyable all the way thought. Everyone from the casual horror fan to the all out action fans will enjoy what they see.

Story Mark 10/10 Great mockumentary all round top stuff.

Action Mark 9/10 The chases are very realistic as if it was really all happening with out any over the top scenes of cinematic taste.

Character Development Mark 9/10 Each scene seems to teach you more about a very relaxed Hans

Special Effects Mark 10/10 Very realistic from start to finish.

Star Performances The Whole cast is convincing from start to finish.

Favourite Character Hans so very relaxed through each situation almost wanting to pass the torch of troll hunting on.

Least Favourite Character Finn as he is the guy coving up the truth.

Best Part Every time they meet a troll.

Worst Part involving a goat and a troll could be hard to watch for some.

Best Quote Thomas ‘in a sense, you’re a true Norwegian Hero.’ Hans ‘No, you’re wrong about that. There’s nothing heroic about what I do. It’s dirty work.

Similar Too – District 9, Rec and Blair Witch Project.
