Story: The Suspect starts when a black man (Phifer) is being interrogated by Sheriff Dixon (Sadler). He is the prime suspect in a bank robbery, but both men stay one step ahead. Meanwhile, we see the suspect has a partner (Brown) and they have put together a social experiment.
When we return to the Sheriff Dixon investigation, we learn how things have started to go wrong. It becomes a bigger challenge to prove who was telling the truth and what could have gone wrong.
Verdict on The Suspect
The Suspect is an action thriller following a couple of professors who conduct a risky experiment. It follows them arranging a bank robbery and studying the police response dealing with Black suspects. However, things spiral out of control, when things don’t go to plan.
This movie looks to tackle racial profiling in a social experiment. It uses a simple idea of a bank robbery and mistaken arrest. However, things get out of hand when the partners see things getting out of their control. This is a clever idea, even if it does rely on more twists than it needs to. It poses an interesting question and leaves you wondering how police treat any suspects.
Where to Watch
Final Thoughts – The Suspect is an interesting twist on a crime story.
