Verdict on Stephen King on Screen

Stephen King on Screen is a documentary where the directors of some of the Stephen King movies discuss his influence on their careers. This gets us underway through a string of different personal stories and their interactions with King himself. Along with how they managed to get the most out of the material on paper.

This does tend to jump around Stephen’s career a lot with no focus on the order of his influence. However, if you know the movies, you will appreciate the discussion around the favourites. While what we see is great and wonderful enjoy hearing the stories. It is the tease in the end credits of the many other stories we could have learnt about.

Sadly, the movie doesn’t do enough to show the pure scope of his work. It only hand-picks some of the most significant projects. As somebody who has seen nearly every single project, it would have been nice to see and learn about some of the less successful projects. To give us an understanding of how things didn’t connect. Otherwise, on the surface, this feels like a routine documentary about the iconic writer.

Where to Watch: Signature Entertainment presents Stephen King on Screen on Digital Platforms 26th of June & Blu-ray 18th of September.

Final Thoughts Stephen King on Screen is everything you would expect from a documentary about an icon.
