Plot: Convicted felon Jimmy gets early parole after serving twelve years for armed robbery. Upon his release, he vows to give Annie, his childhood love, now dying from cancer, the best last year of her life – unfortunately it’s not that simple.

Story: South of Heaven starts when Jimmy (Sudeikis) gets early parole. With the promise, he will make his sweetheart Annie (Lilly) has the perfect last year of her life. Jimmy looks to start an honest life, but it isn’t long before his past comes back to him.
His parole officer Schmidt (Whigham) asks him to complete a pickup job, which sees the job to spiral out of control. Jimmy clashes with White Price (Colter) as the two play a dangerous game of cat-n-mouse.
Verdict on South of Heaven
South of Heaven is an action thriller that follows a criminal that is given a chance to redeem himself, only to find himself dragged back into the criminal world. It creates a world where one thing goes wrong and then things only continue to get worse for the man who is trying to fix his life.
This doesn’t bring us very much new and by the end of the film, the big heart it has takes the back burner to the criminal world. It keeps us guessing as to what will happen next, as in the world he is trapped in as everything just seems to escalate.
The performances in the film are strong enough, with Jason Sudeikis being the best of the performers.
Final Thoughts – South of Heaven is a standard action thriller with a spiralling out-of-control story.
