Verdict on Hook
Recap
The movie follows a teenager preparing for her 18th birthday. However, a shocking truth comes to light as her real father has returned and is out for revenge. He attacks her friends before letting his true intentions be known.
Best Parts
We have seen a lot of the public domain projects turned into horror movies. This one takes the wacky idea of pixie dust transforming people and turns it into a nightmare. From a pure slasher point of view, it works nicely and the killer is created to use their weapon more often than random weapons. We get a more entertaining slasher, without going over the top or doing anything to rival the best out there.
Worst Parts
If you have started getting tired of the public domain horror movies, this isn’t going to make you think about giving them another try. Elsewhere, it can feel rushed in the 2nd half of the movie.
Final Thoughts –Hook is a fun, wacky public domain horror movie.
