Story: Chronical: 2067 starts as we enter a world where all plant life has died, the oxygen levels on Earth are produced, seeing millions die and the communities fighting over the final supplies, Ethan Whyte (Smit-McPhee) is one of the employees trying to maintain the oxygen supply, while caring for his sick wife Xanthe (Shaik).
When the company reveals to Ethan their secret plan to travel in time to find a cure, Ethan is conflicted on what to do, knowing he could save millions with his sacrifice on what could well be a one way mission.
Thoughts on Chronical 2067
Characters – Ethan Whyte has been working for the company which produce the oxygen needed to survive, he is doing everything to support his sick wife, until he is given a chance to travel through time to learn of a cure from the future that could save the present and answer his personal questions about what happened to his father. Jude is the friend that finds himself trying to protect Ethan in the future like he has always done in his life.
Performances – Kodi Smit-McPhee in the leading role must do a large amount of the work with his character dealing with the most through the film. Ryan Kwanten adds the important supporting role well in the film.
Story – The story here follows one man in the future that is given a chance to travel in time to find a cure that could save humanity from a world without a natural oxygen source, something his father was involved in creating. This is a very interesting story because it gets to see how climate change could see mankind struggling to survive. Only the story does seem to add a big mystery about what has happened in this future, which instead of playing into the bigger picture, it doesn’t help with the big problem they are trying to solve. How the plan is put in place though is great to see, braver than we would have expected too.
Sci-Fi – The film uses the future world with little hope, which is filled with darkness which turns to time travel to solve the problems, which doesn’t always go through the most intense side of things.
Settings – The sci-fi side of the film uses the dystopian world of a bleak future and the open world that could hold the answers.
Scene of the Movie – The landing.
That Moment That Annoyed Me – The over the top discussions about what might have happened.
Final Thoughts – Chronical: 2067 brings us a climate change warning movie that offers an interesting concept to survive.
