Story: Black Lotus starts when special forces operative Matteo (Verhoeven) puts too much at risk, leading to members of his team getting killed. 5-years-later, he has been moving around, returning to see his former partner’s family Helene (Dompnier).

Meanwhile, Helene’s new husband Paul (Franzen) has found himself involved with a criminal syndicate led by Saban (Grillo). When Saban looks to put pressure on Paul, he takes Helene’s daughter Angie (Casey). Matteo decides to do everything he can to protect his best friend’s daughter.

Verdict on Black Lotus

Black Lotus is an action thriller following a former special forces operative needing to go to war against a crime syndicate that took his former partner’s daughter. It sees him needing to use all his skills in combat to do the right thing. All while he is still haunted by his partner’s death.

This action movie brings us a redemption arc for the lone warrior. He is traumatised by his past and being able to fight back against a ruthless crime lord gives him a chance to recover from his own pain. While this side of the film is everything we have come to expect from the action genre. It is kickboxing star Rico Verhoeven that follows in the footsteps of many other combat sports experts that leads this movie. he does a great job in the role while bringing his imposing presence to the big screen.

Final Thoughts Black Lotus is a throwback action movie.
