Story: Annie starts as we meet the young orphan Annie (Wallis) who lives in a foster home in New York City. She maintains a positive outlook that she could one day find out who her parents are. On her adventures, mayoral candidate Will Stacks (Foxx) runs into little Annie.
Will’s team Grace (Byrne) and Guy (Cannavale) see a PR opportunity to recover his poor recent reaction. This sees Will adopt Annie and his approval rating goes through the roof. However, his true motivation might come back to haunt him and break little Annie’s spirit.
Verdict on Annie
Annie is a comedy musical remake of the popular classic movie. It follows the same concept as little orphan Annie gets adopted by a mayoral candidate searching for a PR boost. However, their time together helps show Will a new view on life.
Many people wouldn’t want to see the movie updated believing it is a classic. However, the update brings everything into the modern day and proves that even the same stories can be told in a different world. It still maintains the meaningful story of accepting people in life and treating people fairly. The performances are great with Quvenzhane Wallis shining as the young Annie.
Where to Watch
Final Thoughts – Annie is a charming remake that holds an important message.
