Verdict on The Haunting at Jack the Ripper’s House
Recap
The movie follows a group of fake ghost hunters who have been facing rumours around their content. They decide to take on one of the most haunted places in the UK and discover a realing series of scary events they must escape from.
Best Parts
The movie doesn’t hold back on exposing that the YouTubers are faking their content. It proves they would rather go viral, than explain paranormal moments. This brings everything you want from a horror surrounding people trying to get a haunting moment and bite of more than they can chew. We get strong performances throughout, and the found footage element doesn’t get overused.
Worst Parts
The elephant in the room is using Jack the Ripper as the main location or ghost. There are two ways to look at this, first would be the attacks are not a disturbing as the real killer, which feels more disappointing than anything. It felt like it was designed for a grizzly series of attack like the original psychopath. On the flip side, it has been a long debate about whether real serial killers should be used as pawns in movies, with the countless tasteless Ted Bundy movies.
Final Thoughts – The Haunting at Jack the Ripper’s House is a creepy blend of found footage and slasher.
