Story: The Superdeep starts when an underground research facility gets locked down after something goes wrong, Anya (Radulovic) is assigned to investigate what has happened, leading her to put together a team and head to the remote facility.
Anya heads down to the depths of the facility, where she will discover the unknown threat attached to one of the scientists, analysing what the threat will be, she wants to do the right thing, only to learn the truth of why she was called to investigate.
Thoughts on The Superdeep
Characters & Performances – Anya is the woman assigned to try and figure out what has been happening within the underground facility, he expert skills are used to identify what is happening, studying the evidence, knowing the threat it will cause to the world, she does know the dangers and wants to do the right thing to make sure the world remains safe. Milena Radulovic does work very well in this leading role, showing the fish out of water figure, who is also the smartest one in the facility, showing her characters strengths in a world surrounded by men. We do have a few other characters, which are mostly the military men that are either waiting to defend, or wanting something else from what they find.
Story – The story here follows a scientific investigator that is assigned to learn what has happened within an underground facility, leading her to learn a terrifying truth and come against horrific creatures. This is a story that will slowly build up to the reveal of what we are dealing with, giving us the information as Anya learns about it before coming to the truth. We will also get into one of the more typical battles between doing the right thing and wanting the dangers for their own good, which has come out of the Alien franchise and many others before. This is a story that has nice pacing and will let you watch through everything as Anya learns about it, leaving us to want to make the decisions with her. It will get the clear message about the secret facilities in the world and just how dangerous they may become.
Themes – The Superdeep is a sci-fi horror movie that will give us plenty of feelings that we are watching ‘The Thing’ with the unknown elements going on within the facility below the ground. This will be made more intense with the fact our characters a trapped in the underground facility that is well below ground, no quick escape. The effects with the creations are great to watch, with different ones becoming clearer are the film unfolds more.
The Superdeep is coming to Shudder on the 17th June.
The Superdeep is a great addition to the underground horror genre, with plenty of mystery and intensity in the claustrophobic filled horror world.
