Story: The Bouncer starts when a skilled fighter, Frank Sharp (Ozuna), takes a bouncer role. He is trying to save up to help his ill mother but finds himself bouncing for known gangster Kane (Mandylor). When Frank witnesses what Kane is doing to women he wants to make a difference.

Meanwhile, his partner Carl (Phillips) advises against it. However, Frank doesn’t listen to the advice and tries to save the latest victim Silvia (Yaneva). Kane sends his men out hunting for Frank and Frank must use his skill to keep Silvia and himself alive.

The Bouncer is an action thriller following a bouncer for a gangster who steps in to protect the latest victim. He goes on the run to find safety while being hunted down by the gangster and his men.

This movie gives us the traditional action idea of a reluctant hero doing the right thing. It lets John Ozuna show his fighting skills and Costas Mandylor is always entertaining to watch as a twisted villain. This struggles to be anything more than a simple late-night action movie but a short runtime makes for a good time.

The Bouncer (VOD Release 10/15/24)

Final Thoughts The Bouncer is late-night action 101.

Thoughts on The Bouncer

The Bouncer is an action drama going in a different direction than you would expect, being darker than you would imagine. As the cold underworld doesn’t seem like it has an easy out, there are no one-liners, just fights and walking away.

This works in two ways, making it look a lot more interesting in the darker world. It does seem to make a lot of the film, feel a lot more lifeless with what is going on. The action sequences are simply enough. Van Damme is everything you would expect for his role and his more serious side works very well for the film. The supporting cast are solid enough, without getting enough time to shine. This is a simple and easy to watch action film, leaning heavily towards the drama of life problems.

Final Thoughts The Bouncer is an interesting twist of the typical action movies you would expect Van Damme to be in.
