Story: Rare Beasts starts as single mother Mandy (Piper) looks to start dating again. Meeting traditionalist Pete (Bill) who seems to come off like an arrogant figure that would only be controlling her. Something Mandy seems to have been through for years before.

The two start their relationship, the couple will find themselves addressing the more adult parts of a relationship. Stepping away from the romantic side of things that people expect in the modern relationship.

Thoughts on Rare Beasts

Rare Beasts is one of the anti-romantic movies that is trying to show that there are more things behind a relationship. Other than what we would expect of see in the made up stories. Not everything is going to be smooth and the older you get, the more stories people will have had beforehand.

This is difficult to watch, as the pair never seem to show any spark despite remaining together. It paints both out as people that would only settle for the first person that comes along, rather than people who want love. The performances are fine, despite some of the dialogue being painful to sit through, as it doesn’t seem like anyone would talk to each other this way. It is unusual for me to comment on a kid character, but this one has one of the most annoying kids in any film, that isn’t blaming the actor, the character is written to be annoying.
