Story: For the Sake of Vicious starts when nurse Romina (Burke) finishes her shift and returns home to find an intruder, Chris (Smyth) who wants her help to get a confession out of Alan (Paradine), the man he believes raped his daughter.
With the three in a stalemate about what really happened, they find themselves coming under attack by a group of masked violent intruders led by Gerald (Fler) needing to put their differences aside to survive the numbers they are facing.
Thoughts on For the Sake of Vicious
Characters & Performances – Romina is the innocent nurse that has had a hard day at work and just wants a peaceful evening at home. She doesn’t get that, as she is left in the middle of the battle between a broken father and the potential rapist of his daughter, trying to figure out the truth, until she needs to fight back against a bigger group of intruders with the two men by her side, showing her desperate side to survive. Lora Burke is good in this role, she brings the innocent figure in a broken situation to life. Chris is the broken father that believes the rapist of his daughter as got away with it, abducting him to get a confession out of him, wanting Romina to help him, he is a truly broken man that once the violence starts, will do anything to fight back, letting out years of frustration about what happened. Nick Smyth goes through the onslaught of intruders showing us a character that isn’t prepared for fighting and will do anything to make it. Alan is the man who has been accused of the rape and gotten of the charges, he has been captured with Chris wanting a confession, despite the fact be believes he didn’t do it. Tired up during most of the film, once the intruders appear, he knows who has come for them. Colin Paradine does bring the character to life, where he can see him being the rapist and also see how he might not have been the man behind it. Gerald is the silent leader of the intruders, he is here for a reason and he will send his group of intruders in to do the dirty work for him. James Fler does bring the ruthless figure to life, though we could have seen more from the character.
Story – The story here follows a innocent nurse that finds herself in the middle of an abduction for confession situation, needing to keep this situation calm before the three find themselves fighting off endless amounts of intruders in violent fights. This is a story that can be broken into two parts, first looking at the three way dynamic between the nurse, the broken father and the accused rapist, which will ask questions about what is too far, is there enough proof and is revenge the right thing. This is the interesting story side of the film. When we look at the second half of the film, we are left with a string of violent intruders trying to kill the three, which while entertaining for the action side, leaves many questions on the table, including why they are dumb when it comes to fighting. It is one of the more known problems with large groups of villains, not working together to take down one or tow people. While everything does feel connected by the end, jumping into the pure violent side of the film is a strange pacing decision for a story that was asking some interesting questions.
Themes – For the Sake of Vicious is an onslaught of violent fights, which seem to give everyone involved more injuries than any normal person can handle. The effects add to make this feel graphic and intense, with the whole film taking place inside one house, using each room for different weapons of choice, from kitchen to bathroom, it never stops to breath once the fighting starts.
