Verdict on Something in the Dirt
Levi has just moved into his LA apartment, he doesn’t have anything and after getting offered some furniture from John he accepts. He finds his apartment to be the key location to the strange events and is happy to investigate with John. Levi doesn’t dive into as much of the supernatural but is willing to learn about the truth.
John is a neighbour that offers Levi friendship and furniture. He meets Levi outside of the apartment and is the first person to see the strange phenomenon in the apartment. John has bigger beliefs to what could be going on, diving him into learning about different theories and symbols.
Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson star, direct and write this movie together. It continues their excellent partnership with their performances helping move the story along so well. Their performances keep us on edge throughout the film.
The story follows two neighbours that find themselves exploring an unexplained phenomenon inside one of their apartments. It starts off with friendship and a small incident before it starts to spiral out of control, diving deeper into the potential explanations.
This continues to show the potential of the unexplained, looking to open doors to bigger concepts within reality. It looks at plenty of potential ideas, which keeps things feeling fresh throughout the film. This uses the wild ideas that we see from an ‘Ancient Aliens’ to place us in a world where any story could be spun into something bigger.
Something in the Dirt is a sci-fi mystery that dives into the unexplained moments in life. It searches through historical moments to try and understand why a certain phenomenon is happening in an apartment in LA. Nothing is taken off the table and we are left with plenty of potential outcomes being discussed throughout the film.
