Verdict on Mantra Surugana
Mantra Surugana is the latest Indonesian horror movie (For another see Primbon). It follows a group of college students who find themselves haunted by an evil spirit. They must race against time to learn what the spirit wants if they have any chance of surviving.
This is one of my favourite types of horror movies. It uses the idea of the haunting becoming more intense to push for the truth, which is even more disturbing than anything presented in the visions. This drives the story to show the curse that has taken over and how it is consuming everyone involved. While most of the scares are similar to what we have seen before. They remain effective in creating the tension required for the movie.
