After being transferred from juvenile to adult prison, Mel Blight (Vincent Miller) is taken under the wing of both Mark Shepard (Cosmo Jarvis), Australia’s most despised criminal, and Warren Murfett (Guy Pearce), a soon-to-be-paroled inmate. As a paternal triangle grows between them, we see that even the worst of men have a little bit of good inside that will be their undoing.
A powerful character study that uniquely subverts prison movie tropes, this superbly crafted drama offers a profound exploration of the Australian incarceration system, one of the only countries in the world where children can be imprisoned indefinitely. Without proselyting on this issue, Inside shows the human side – how victims can become perpetrators and perpetrators victims, and whether there is any hope for either to free themselves.
Written and directed by Charles Williams, Inside stars Guy Pearce (The Brutalist, Memento, L.A. Confidential), Cosmo Jarvis (Shōgun, Warfare, Calm with Horses) and Vincent Miller in his debut feature film role.
