Story: I’m Charlie Walker starts when we meet the ambitious and charming Charlie Walker (Colter). He wants to become a trucker in 1970s San Francisco, where the white business owners refuse to hire any of the black people. Charlie finds a way to get accepted and creates opportunities for other black drivers.

When two oil shippers collide in San Francisco Bay, truckers from around the area jump at the chance to help in the cleanup. Charlie sees his chance to make a name for himself taking the jobs nobody else wants. This sees him becoming a major player in fixing the problems San Francisco is facing.

I’m Charlie Walker is a drama following Charlie Walker taking his opportunity to make an impact in San Francisco after an oil spill. This follows him breaking down race barriers and learning to make the most of the system. However, not everyone wants him to get through the work he sets out to do.

This is an interesting movie that proves everyone can find a way to make a name for themselves. It shows corruption in the systems that favour friends over people who get the work done and tackles the racial problems in the 1970s. We get to see how Charlie found a way to break through and using a more charming approach got the most out of everyone around him. It gives us a nice history lesson and Mike Coulter is delightful to watch, bringing an effortless charisma to the man.

UK digital debut on 11 November 2024, courtesy of Miracle Media.

Final ThoughtsI’m Charlie Walker is an entertaining dive into one man’s ability to bring change.
