Recap

The movie follows Captain James Hook planning his revenge on Admiral Smee. He makes an unlikely partnership with Silas Blackweather and they plan to take out the evil Admiral. However, they must navigate the darkest corners of Eldritch Landing for help.

Best Parts

We get to dive into the Captain Hook legend and see a new horror origin for the character. It is interesting and helps the character play between the lines for future instalments. We could continue seeing him take on old enemies or we could see him be seen as the villain to the more popular characters in the franchise. The location is great, playing around the British invasion of strongholds around the world. Elsewhere, the performances are fun too, thriving on the not so purely serious nature of the story.

Worst Parts

A lot of the weakest parts of the movie come from how people feel about the public domain horror movies. We saw the major studios try a Hook origin story without any success and the question remains, do enough people want a Captain Hook hero story? Elsewhere, it doesn’t get as intense as you would imagine with the concept presented.

Final ThoughtsCaptain Hook: The Cursed Tides is a fun action horror.
