Blonde (2022) Movie Rob’s Review

ABC Film Challenge – Oscar Nomination – B – Blonde – Movie Rob’s Pick

“I’m not a star. I’m just some blonde. ” – Norma Jean

Number of Times Seen – 1 (2 Feb 2023)

Brief Synopsis – A look at the life of Marilyn Monroe and how her quest for fame was affected by her family history.

My Take on it – Really strange film that isn’t as coherent as most would prefer. The way things play out gives a very clear idea as to the various problems she had in her life which were all part of why she was tormented by demons throughout her life. In the world of #metoo, it’s quite interesting to see how part of these issues were self esteem ones and the casting couch method of Hollywood and those prevalent in the industry didn’t hep, but actually aggravated the situation. The film is quite long and it glosses through much of the history known about Marilyn.

The one thing that I have no doubts about is the performance by Ana de Armas who is an amazing screen presence as Marilyn and shows her vulnerability through many of the scenes in the film. She definitely deserves the various award nominations for her performance including Best Actress at the Oscars. Unfortunately tho, since the presentation is a mess, it’s quite hard to get through this nearly 3 hour film.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – This is the first widely-distributed NC-17 rated Hollywood film since Showgirls (1995). (From IMDB)

Rating – Razzie Worthy (3/10)
