First Reaction – Ash has an interesting idea but gets caught between being a slasher and a psychological thriller.

Plot: A woman wakes up on a distant planet and finds the crew of her space station viciously killed. Her investigation into what happened sets in motion a terrifying chain of events.

Story: Ash starts when Riya (Gonzalez) wakes up, finding that the crew has been butchered. She does not remember the events and wants to solve the mystery when Brion (Paul) arrives. He looks to bring her to safety, knowing there is a threat on the outside of the mysterious planet.
The two must work together to uncover the truth. However, Riya doesn’t know where she should trust Brion, as he is pushing for a quick evacuation. The more time they spend together, the more dangerous the situation becomes.
Verdict on Ash

The movie follows a woman who wakes up to discover her crew has been killed. Alone, she searches for answers until a stranger appears to help answer the questions. However, the planet poses other threats, and she must figure out how to escape the situation.
Best Parts
The environment used is wonderful; it shows a future-thinking humanity trying to find a new home. It creates the isolation required to add fear to everything involved. The horror elements come through strong without being as scary as it could be. It focuses more on the aftermath of something that happened, rather than building to something big occurring.
Worst Parts
As a big Iko Uwais fan, it does feel like he is wasted in a small supporting role without getting to show his action skills. Elsewhere, it does have a lot of similarities to other movies that tried to tackle the same concepts, and could be compared to a movie like ‘Life’ without the quality that movie presented.
Final Thoughts –Ash has a great idea that doesn’t quite click.
