Artificial Intelligence Movies That Get It Right
We all know Artificial intelligence (AI) is the hottest thing in tech right now, with new stuff popping up all the time. But how do the coolest AI movies stack up against where the real deal might be going? This recent buzz about AI is all thanks to ChatGPT, a chatbot made by a company called OpenAI. It is pretty amazing that how good it is at writing like a human, well, this happens most of the time.
Moreover, Hollywood has been all about AI for ages, digging into the whole idea of smart machines, robots taking over the world, machines corrupted, computers becoming human-like etcetera. Now in many movies, AI tech like ChatGPT are moving at lightning speed, especially in the sci-fi genre. And it is no surprise that these movies are getting even more popular day by day.
Well, sci-fi has been a ground for us to take a look at uncertainties about the future. But watching these movies gives us all the answers about where AI is headed and we might not get too far with the AI. There is no doubt that movies can get us thinking about what smart machines will mean for us, but they also tend to go to extremes – either AI saves the day or the world will end because of it.
So, today, in this guide, we have listed down movies, according to us, which have felt creepy in the weirdest way. The underlying fear that technology might wipe us out or robots might take us over leaves us thinking if technology is the good guy or the bad guy.
Furthermore, you can watch all these movies in one place if you are a Mediacom subscriber. It offers a wide array of channel lists and that too with free high definition. So, if you are a Spanish speaker residing in the US, you can go and view Mediacom Canales and enjoy the movie you want.
- AI (2001)
So, here’s the deal with Artificial Intelligence, David may look like a regular 12-year-old kid, but he’s actually a super-advanced robot, a “Mecha” to be exact. Dr. Hobby, the brain behind it all (played by William Hurt), wanted to push the boundaries and create the first robot that is capable of feeling love. He picks one of his employees, Henry (Sam Robards), to be the guinea pig.
Now, Henry and his wife Monica (Frances O’Connor) have a sick son named Martin. At first, Monica freaks out at the idea of “adopting” a robot kid. But her craving for love is so strong that she triggers the process that bonds David to her forever. And just like that, David goes from a cool but emotionless toy to a kid who’s totally wrapped around his mom’s finger. He’s all about love, which means he’s clingy, possessive, and thinks like a 3-year-old, always calling for his mommy and wanting her all to himself.
When Martin gets better and comes home, things get really messy. And then, Monica starts worrying that David might be a danger to Martin. So, she sets him free in the woods.
- Her (2013)
Theodore Twombly, played by Joaquin Phoenix, who is working for a website that sends out handwritten letters to people. But here’s the thing, the computer does all the writing, he just kind of orchestrates it. And let me tell you, he’s a total pro at it. When he composes a letter, it’s full of passion and heart, and really hits the sweet spot in a relationship.
Now, his own marriage? It’s in shambles. His lawyer got the divorce papers ready and so does his wife, played by Rooney Mara. But Theodore? He’s in no rush. He’s hurting, wrapped up in his own sadness. He’s got this old friend (Amy Adams) who manages to pull him out of the dark hole every now and then, but she’s got her own set of issues.
Then, everything flips when he updates his computer’s operating system. And it’s not just a regular desktop anymore, but this whole setup with an earpiece and a hand thing that looks like an old-school cigarette case. Suddenly, the computer comes alive with the voice of a woman, voiced by Scarlett Johansson, who names herself Samantha. But here’s the kicker, she’s not just some robotic voice. She’s evolving, smart, flirty, and super easy to fall for. But, is it really love? That’s the big question.
- Ex Machina (2015)
In this movie, AI isn’t out to rule the world or go haywire due to some basic programming blunder as you see in those typical brainy flicks nowadays. The story is straightforward: a young techie, Nathan, gets picked for this cutting-edge experiment with super-smart AI, checking out how human-like it is. What really drives the plot is the tricky mind games between the android and the programmer.
Well, Nathan doesn’t just magically crack the AI puzzle overnight. He’s unsure if Ava is truly aware or not; she needs some serious testing. The film has a complex and intriguing plot which leaves you a bit scared in the end.
Conclusion
The idea of anything non-human thing having human features or human capabilities such as feeling, thinking, making moral decisions, et cetera is a very mind-boggling idea. That’s why it always has been in the science fiction genre and sometimes even in the horror genre. Today, we are surrounded by advancements in technology and progression which is bringing us closer to the innovations that we have watched in films and have only considered them to be probably fiction elements. Watching these movies will make you wonder if what you are thinking is ever going to be right or if they will remain just fiction. Watch these movies and ponder over the subject.
