Verdict: Love, with Laughs and Hearts

Story: Addicted to You starts as Luke (Hartline) learns to grow up without ever falling in love, this has seen him always making excuses for any relationship that gets too serious, Aimee (Alter) starts working at the website Buzzstory, where she looks to find the single guys, taking a shine to Luke, while Jackson (Francis) and David (Mendez) are waiting for their opportunity with her.

When Luke discovers just how clingy Aimee is, he needs to find a way to let her down easily, with the only solution the friends come up with is that he is a sex addict. Here Luke meets Kara (Paulo) who has her own agenda studying the group, only the two start to fall in love.

Thoughts on Addicted to You

Characters – Luke has grown up believing that falling in love is bad and plans to never do it, to escape the latest woman in his life he pretends to be a sex addict, only he ends needing to go to session, he gets on with a woman studying sex addiction, which gives him his first look at understanding love. Kara is a journalist whose latest article is on sex addicts, where she joins the group, she starts to see the positives in Luke, where she isn’t sure whether to write the article or follow her heart. Aimee is the new girl at Luke’s office, she takes an instant shine to him, getting very clingy, very quickly, forcing Luke to lie about himself to get away from her, she is always stalking him around the office, waiting for him to come back to her. Jackson and David are the best friends, they always hang out together, they have their own adventures, even though they both just want one thing, love.

PerformancesShane Hartline in the leading role does play the character very straight down the middle, letting the other stars be the more flamboyant figures. Melissa Paulo is strong as the conflicted character, while Cat Alter, Choni Francis, Garrett Mendez and Warren Burke are excellent in the supporting roles, getting most of the laughs in the film.

StoryThe story here follows a man that never wants to fall in love that lies about being a sex addict to get away from a stalker, only to fall in love with a woman studying the group, where they both have secrets that could unlock love. Deep down we get the message about finding love in any location at any time in life, often at the worst time possible. We might get more colourful characters than in real life, which at times can take you out of story, with only Luke and Kara coming off like normal people. The strongest part of the story is showing us how people want love and how they just don’t know how to find it, which reflects life too often.

ComedyThe comedy comes from the over the top actions of the supporting characters, Aimee, Jackson, David and Mr Adams are the highlights.

SettingsThe film is set in LA though we don’t get any iconic locations, we have the local bar where the guys are known by name.

Scene of the Movie – Jackson tries two drinks.

That Moment That Annoyed Me – The random drug scene.

Final Thoughts This is a fun comedy that does show the importance of love and how people just want to fall in love.

Overall: Funny Comedy.
