Plot: At the height of the Detroit Garage Rock movement in 1999, a chronically ill father, his musician son and his band bond on a raucous road trip as they war with a rival band on the way to the South by Southwest festival.

Story: Band on the Run starts when aspiring musician Jesse (Perl) struggles with his daily job. He wants to make an impact in the garage scene, but gets a shocked when his mother abandons his disabled father Thomas (Bagby). However, Jesse’s gets fired from his day job and decides to take his father and band on the road to South by Southwest Festival.
On the journey, Jesse and Thomas get closer than they have been before, leading to them understand the importance of music. Meanwhile, they get into a battle with rival band who has a bigger following in the music industry.

Best Parts
This shows the importance of learning about music from different worlds if you are ever going to make it yourself. It uses the family bond which could be strained and needs fixing. Meanwhile, the performances are entertaining and pull on the emotional factors. There is a light-hearted style to the story, and it is an enjoyable but doesn’t hide away from the more serious subjects.
Worst Parts
We don’t jump enough into their music, rather the journey, which could have added an even bigger level of emotional journey.
Final Thoughts – Band on the Run is an enjoyable road trip movie.
