Story: The Colour Room starts when Clarice Cliff (Dynevor) gets caught stealing clay from her company. Clarice dreams of bringing her own projects to the table, using the throwaway clay home to produce her own work. This catches the eye of the owner Colley Shorter (Goode) who gives her a promotion to the design team.

Clarice must overcome men looking down on her to prove she is just as good or better than the male designers. In 1920s England she needs to break ground in making people pay attention to her work.

Verdict on The Colour Room

The Colour Room is a historical drama that explores one woman’s battle to make a name for herself in the pottery world. the 1920s were still a male-orientated world and with women only getting the basic jobs in the industry. Clarice looked to break down those walls and redefine what people expected in their pottery.

This gives us an example of another woman that led the change needed in the world. It might have only been a small change, but it was one that helped reshape the industry. This movie shows how male-orientated the industry was, by showing nobody ever thought outside the box with their designs.

The performance from Phoebe Dynevor is great, showing the strength to lead despite many things going against her character. Matthew Goode brings an added star factor, with a positive character.

Final Thoughts The Colour Room is a great game-changer movie.

An excellent review. I haven’t heard of this film, but it definitely does sound like the type of movie I would enjoy. I love movies which take place in previous eras. Old-fashioned period pieces have appealed to me. I also am a fan of Phoebe Dynevor who has proven to a fantastic actress. Last year, she blew me away with her gripping performance as a jealous lover in “Fair Play”. She definitely seems like an actress that chooses her roles wisely, so I will see this movie for her alone.

Here’s why I adored Phoebe Dynevor’s performance in “Fair Play”:
