After 15 years, Movie Reviews 101 is concluding as the author shifts focus away from film criticism.

It has been 15 years since I started Movie Reviews 101, and we have had an amazing journey. This time we got to cover the London Film Festival and multiple FrightFest. Elsewhere, we got to cover a host of movies from around the world, from the small micro-budgets to the biggest Hollywood-made.

Sadly, I have reached a point where I need to step away from writing about movies. It is a difficult decision because I love sharing reviews for some of the smallest, lesser-known films. However, it has been taking up too much of my personal time, and I need to begin focusing on other things.

Part of me has begun to lose the passion for writing about films because I want to have conversations about them. However, due to changes in how people consume media and the way large tech companies make it harder to get noticed, it can’t be maintained. I have got frustrated with the hot-take era of film, where it’s either the ‘greatest of all time’ or ‘the worst of all time’.

I want to thank every single Press company that ever reached out and allowed me to review movies I would never have even heard about. These teams have helped shape the site over the last 10 years due to the content they provided. Also, the filmmakers who reached out directly to cover their film. No matter what was said, they were happy to give us a chance to review and start a conversation about their films.

What does the future hold?

Over the next few months, we will still have reviews going live. I have plans for reviews up to the end of February 2026. Yes, I know I always plan very far ahead for the older non-new-release movies. For now, I am going to stop posting as many release news post. I have already started to ease off on the numbers we did before.

As for reviews, I will still cover some new ones, but I am going to be focusing on whether I have time to cover them, rather than making sure I cover them all. Elsewhere, I want to continue focusing on the new cinema releases and some of the streaming ones.

The end of the site will be 2027, but 2026 is going to have a lot less content all around.

I would like to thank everyone who has ever visited, read, commented and given me an opportunity. It has been an amazing experience, but it is time to prepare to pull the curtain down.

Thank you everyone

Darren

Thank you for the times we spent sharing movie love. There should be reviews for the next 4 months or so still. but it is more not rushing to watch things anymore.
