Verdict on Three Day Millionaire

Characters

Curly Dean is a trawler man, he is the one everyone at work goes to for help, advice or a good time. When he learns about the company, he sets out to solve the problem, becoming a Robin Hood figure in Grimsby. He brings together his best friends for the heist in hopes to save the local community.

Mr Barr is the owner of the company that sells up leaving his employees empty-handed. He knows it is just business, but he continues to gloat about what he has done to everyone.

Mr Graham recruits Curly on the heist, he knows what is up for grabs and offers to do the more difficult side of the operation. He feels helpless when it comes to what is happening to the business and wants to change it.

Budgie and Codge are the two closest friends that help Curly and usually find themselves dealing with his parties. There are other employees we meet along the way, whose lives have been changed by the actions of everyone involved.

Performances

The performances in the movie are strong. James Burrows brings plenty of charisma to the leading role making us believe he is a true local in the movie. Colm Meaney being the biggest name in the movie gets to show the big moments, while the rest of the cast all work well throughout the film.

Story

The story follows a group of recently laid-off trawler men who come together on a heist against their former employer. This sees them needing to put a plan together and use their people skills to get the heist done.

In the world of many heist movies, you always need to find a little spark to make it stand out. This does a good job to make the community feel desperate for a solution. Addressing many of the problems small towns have faced due to changes in the community. As for the heist, it does all it needs to, letting the banter between the friends carry the movie along nicely.

Using the small town setting of Grimsby helps, with the history in the opening, showing how much has changed.

Where to Watch: THREE DAY MILLIONAIRE will be in UK and Irish cinemas and digital platforms from 25th November.

Final Thoughts Three Day Millionaire is a fun heist movie with a true community feel.

X-Men (2000) Thoughts

ABC Film Challenge – Thriller – X – X-Men

Plot: In a world where mutants (evolved super-powered humans) exist and are discriminated against, two groups form for an inevitable clash: the supremacist Brotherhood, and the pacifist X-Men.

My Brief Thoughts on X-Men

Thoughts: I have reviewed X-Men movies plenty of times through the years. It has become a staple of the site; I enjoy all of them without question despite how others feel about them. I have wanted to re-watch them slowly through the years. This first chapter in the franchise does bring forward the question of how to maintain mutants in society, so they don’t cause damage to anyone. It deserves credit for being one of the films that helped bring comic book movies back to the serious stage. After Batman & Robin nearly took them all away from everyone.

Runtime: 1 Hour 47 Minutes

There may be spoilers in the rest of the review

Story: The Menu starts when Tyler (Hoult) and Margot (Taylor-Joy) join an exclusive restaurant experience with the elite. They join 10 other guests for an exclusive meal from Chef Slowik (Fiennes), who tells a story for every course he delivers.

As the night unfolds, it starts to take a dark turn, as the Chef’s true intentions are revealed. The guests must figure out if they can escape before the night ends.

Verdict on The Menu

Characters

Chef Slowik is the host of the night, a world-renowned chef who has stories behind his meals. He expects perfection from his team and his customers. Chef has planned this night out perfectly until an unexpected guest arrives on his island. Margot is Tyler’s guest, a person the Chef wasn’t expecting to be a guest at the party. She stands up to the Chef on a different level to the rest of the guests.

Tyler brings Margot along, he is obsessed with Slowik and has been trying to get involved in his elite experience. However, he is determined to take photos of the work, one of the rules they don’t want to see on the night. He thinks he knows it all when it comes to cooking, however, he hasn’t ever stepped foot in a kitchen before.

In the rest of the characters, we see other guests including a food critic, a movie star and bankers.

Performances

Ralph Fiennes is fantastic in the leading role, grabbing your attention from start to finish with his appearance in the movie. He demands your attention much like the Chef demands from everyone there. Anya Taylor-Joy keeps mystery around her character, which she shines along opposite Fiennes. Nicholas Hoult brings us a disturbing figure that shows how selfish influencers can become. The supporting cast does a great job too, as the film is shot as if we had 4 cameras rolling catching up with the conversations on the tables.

Story

The story follows a group of exclusive guests that get treated to an exclusive meal from a world-famous chef. However, the night takes a twisted turn, as the guest learn the true motives for why they have been invited.

This is a strange story because it is filled with tension, as we know something big is going to happen. However, it puts too much on tackling why Margot is there, rather than why the Chef has planned the night. It is interesting to see things unfolding despite leaving us flat with the conclusion.

There is a massive message about high-class people looking down on people. Giving us a chance to see things from both sides, as Margot is not from that world.

Final Thoughts The Menu is an interesting movie with brilliant performances from the leads.
