Top 5 Favourite Serial Supporting Actors

We all know the biggest names in Hollywood but you always find yourself watching a film going, ‘that guy’ in a supporting role. Today I am going to look at my favourite serial supporting actors. some of these actors have gone onto lead films but those films haven’t set any box office record while their supporting roles are what everyone will remember them for. I have also set myself a couple of rules where I want actors currently performing in the business so if there was someone you were expecting to see from classic cinema they will not be appearing in this list.

5. Cliff Curtis

Cliff will be the man who has played the most nationalities on my list where he has played character from all over the world in his career. He has the ability to adapt into any role playing both good and bad. He has always been in supporting roles and plays the roles that transcend the divides between good and bad. He will be the good guy that gets in the way of the actual hero without being the bad guy, but he will also be the strong villain against his heavyweight leads.

4. Aaron Eckhart

Aaron does have an appearance in The Dark Knight as Harvey Dent to his name, but whenever this guy gets the lead roles in films all we get it criticism with the film actually flopping in the Box Office. He has given a brilliant performance in Thank You For Smoking but take that out he just hasn’t got the chance he really deserves to break out of the supporting star role.

3. Neal McDonough

Neal has over 100 credits to his name according to the IMDB, he has supporting roles in Captain America: The First Avenger, Minority Report and Flags of our Fathers. I think it would be fair you would know him most as the bad guy in films where he has played plenty of villains but upon the small screen he was the lead in one of my favourite but short lived shows ‘Medical Investigation’.

2. Ben Foster

Ben could easily be my favourite of the actors on this list because his range is simply unbelievable, he always turns up in a role you wouldn’t never image him in, be it ‘The Stranger’ in 30 Days of Night, Angel in X-Men Last Stand or the psychopathic Mars in Hostage (Which I still consider one of the most disturbing characters in an action film of all time). I do wish he would finally get a chance as a solo lead because if anyone can carry a film it would be him.

1. Adam Baldwin

Adam has been in the television land for decades now, but his film appearances in supporting roles show that he could live up to the name he has. Jayne from Firefly and Serenity will always be his most loved performance and showed that he had comic timing to go with his serious side, I think it is time he got a chance to prove himself in the world of Hollywood rather than spending all his talent in television.

They both go pretty much hand in hand with each other and it's fun to discover new classics. I co host the podcasts The Film Pasture, ScreenTrax, and soon Cinema Recall. While also contributing reviews and articles to other great sites when I can.

Great list. Aaron Eckhart had a good lead role in the indie “In The Company of Men” Adam Baldwin in Firefly is a great choice

    • Thanks, I do like Eckhart in The Core, Thank You For Smokin and he didn’t do anything wrong himself in I,Frankenstein, he just always seems to miss the box office

  2. Agree about Foster. He was so good in support in 3:10 to Yuma. The one lead I’ve seen him play was in The Messenger and he was excellent. Along with Thank You For Smoking, Eckhart’s other great lead is in In the Company of Men when he was very young.

    • If i am right Foster has the lead in the Amrstrong biopic so he might shine and move to next level there
