Thoughts on Logan Lucky

Characters – Jimmy Logan has been a down on his luck when it comes to jobs, being a responsible father leving him to reach the end of his hope. Jimmy has a plan to rob the Nascar race track on race day after learning how the money is trasnffered, now he puts together his team. His is a good man just wanting the best for his family. Clyde is the brother of Jimmy, he has lost a hand in Iraq and joins his brother in the plan. Joe Bang is the best safe cracker in the south, but he is behind bars, he will work on the team with his own rules which means breaking him out and giving him explosives. Mellie is the sister of the family, she uses her looks to get out of trouble and likes to show off her knowledge of cars.

PerformancesChanning Tatum in the leading role works, he continues to show he can step away from the sex symbol he has created around himself to play the less desirable roles. Adam Drive also shows us another string to his talents in this dead pan comedy roles. Riley Keough is strong too through the film here she plays the typical redneck woman. Daniel Craig gives the best performance in the film, he gets the most laughs with his mad character that he doesn’t go over the top.

StoryThe story is a heist movie from the lower class of America, we have the characters that have fallen on hard times over the usual experienced heist going team. The story works for a heist film and follows the books as you would imagine without being anything overly original and feeling long in places. We have the scene which reveals the heist to finishes off the moments of the story we might not have picked up on earlier.

Comedy/CrimeThe comedy feels dead pan for the most part and does keep the tone of the crime side of the story feeling light, which works for the style the film is going for.

SettingsThe settings work because it shows where the characters are from and how difficult their lives are.

Scene of the Movie –
Science time.

That Moment That Annoyed Me It feels long.

Final ThoughtsSimple by the book heist film, it has moments of comedy but it ends up being nothing overly original but easily watchable.

Overall: Easy to watch and fun.

Verdict: Delightful Animated Musical

Story: Sing starts as we follow a hustling theatre owner Buster Moon, looking to save his career, we follow the other animals in the city including say home mother pig Rosita, an underachieving musician mouse Mike, punk rocker porcupine Ash, gorilla about to enter the world of crime Johnny and shy elephant Meena, that enter this competition that Buster moon hosts with a prize of $100,000.

While Buster needs to find a way to make the money for the prize the talent continues to build their performances, learning how the breakout of their average lives being the best they could ever be.

Thoughts on Sing

Characters – Buster Moon is an ambitious but unsuccessful theatre owner, who has always dreamed of putting on a show everybody would love. He is quick thinking when it comes to getting him out of trouble, he is also ambitious enough to try something new and motive people to try. Rosita is the mother pig of 25 piglets, she has always dreamed of singing but lacks the charisma until Buster gets hold of her. Mike is a wise cracking mouse that is always looking for a quick buck. Ash is meant to be a teenage porcupine that is a punk rocker that needs to change her style to make the impact she deserves in music. Eddie is the only friend Buster has in the theatre, his family has helped fund Buster mad cap ideas before, he is the only one that will stand by him. Johnny is a gorilla that is destining to follow his father in a life a crime, even though he wants to be a singer, he faces the decision to whether to turn his back on his father or not. Meena is the shy elephant with the voice of an angel, she needs to learn to come out her shell to show the world her talent.

StoryThe story follows the group of everyday people, well animals getting a chance to follow their dreams in the music industry from an ambitious theatre owner. While you can look at the story in two directions, one would be poking fun at these countless talent shows on television now and the other being showing people how to follow their dreams however hard they seem to be, if you have the talent you will get the chance. it is sweet and simple story that can be enjoyed by everyone who watches.

Comedy/Family/MusicThe comedy is clear to see in how either the animals could be known for certain types of music or how they act to become something. The family should all enjoy this movie to be honest and the music include has something for everyone, from pop songs to classics, it should check the boxes for everyone.

SettingsThe fantasy settings feels like it is a version of LA with the animals included, it works for the ambition the characters are showing.

AnimationThe animation style used works and never looks out of place for the film, could easily be up there with the best.

Scene of the Movie –
The grand show.

That Moment That Annoyed Me Too much Mike, because he does feels like one of Seth MacFarlane creation.

Final ThoughtsThis is an easy to watch and enjoyable throughout, it is something I can see many people get a smile from.

Overall: Enjoyable throughout.

Ted 2 (2015)

logoDirector: Seth MacFarlane

Writer: Seth MacFarlane, Alec Sulkin, Wellesley Wild (Screenplay)

Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Seth MacFarlane, Amanda Seyfried, Jessica Barth, Giovanni Ribisi, Morgan Freeman, Sam J Jones, Patrick Warburton, Michael Dorn

Plot: Newly-wed Couple Ted and Tami-Lynn want to have a baby, but in order to qualify to b a parent, Ted will have to prove he’s a person in a court of law.

There may be spoilers the rest of the review

Verdict: Solid Sequel

Story: Ted 2 starts with Ted marrying Tami-Lynn (Barth) getting married by Sam Jones (Himself). John (Wahlberg) is no longer married to Lori which means no Mila Kunis this time. It doesn’t take long before the two struggle with married life when they get the idea to have a baby.

Ted needs to find himself sperm donor with his first choice being Flash Gordon doesn’t come off they head after Tom Brady next. When these plans fail Ted turns to Johnny for sperm but things get worse for Ted when they find out Tami-Lynn can’t have children. Ted’s life get worst when he finds out the state only sees him as property meaning he can’t adopt, loses his job and has his marriage annulled.

Deciding this isn’t right the Ted and John go to a lawyer and get young ambitious lawyer Samantha (Seyfried) who accepts their case while getting high with them. Time to introduce a villain as Donnie (Risibi) is still not in jail and works as Hasbro giving the boss a new idea to steal Ted if he loses the case. We are left to wonder whether Ted will get his civil rights back and be treated like a human even when Samantha has to turn to Patrick Meighan (Freeman) for help in the civil rights case.

Ted 2 manages to keep the comedy you would expect after seeing the first film going, even if the story seems to focus on the civil rights of Ted. It almost throws out the whole story from the first film on John’s side of the story which is disappointing because we would like to see how things were going rather than just, they got divorced. The main story of trying to prove Ted should have human rights gets slightly too serious for my liking because I think it takes away from the adult fairy tale which the first film felt like. The comical moments do feel like an episode of family guy because they play out at times as the say something show a clip of it happening moment. On the negative I do think they rely on drugs way too much for my liking. Overall the story is serious but the comical moments work to cover it up enough to make it enjoyable. (7/10)

Actor Review

Mark Wahlberg: John is recently divorced best friend of Ted who offers to help Ted get sperm to become a father. He still is a slacker without having much idea what he is doing with his life. He agrees to help Ted prove he deserves to be treated the same as every other living person. Mark doesn’t reach the comedy levels he is capable this time around but still does give us a solid job. (6/10)john

Seth MacFarlane (Voice): Ted is our teddy bear who gets married and wants to start a family but when the state learn that he is a teddy bear they take away his civil rights. Ted has to fight for his civil rights proving that he is a real person. After his disastrous acting performance last time out Seth steps back behind the voice of character which works for him because he is a great voice actor. (7/10)ted

Amanda Seyfried: Samantha is the young lawyer who takes the case which will be the first of her career, when things don’t go well she reaches out to top civil rights lawyer Patrick Meighan to finally help her win the case, she also offers romantic interest John. Amanda comes into the film and plays a character I wouldn’t want a lawyer but does a solid job. (6/10)samantha

Jessica Barth: Tami-Lynn is Ted’s wife until it gets annulled due to Ted losing his civil rights, she stands by her man through the whole situation. Jessica does a solid job but doesn’t get the screen time you would expect from the importance of her character. (6/10)tammi

Morgan Freeman: Patrick Meighan is the one of the best civil right lawyers in America that Samantha turns to to try and help with the case but only ends up rejecting them because he finds the case too difficult to deal with. Morgan doesn’t appear in enough scenes really. (5/10)

Giovanni Risibi: Donnie is free from jail and still wants Ted, he works for Hasbro as a cleaner as he plans to talk a high ranking member of Hasbro into stealing Ted and discovering what makes hi tick. Giovanni brings the same character back to the film which works because he will be the hapless villain. (7/10)

Support Cast: Ted 2 gives you what you would expect from the series, cameos left right and centre that add extra laughs.

Director Review: Seth MacFarlane Seth returns to what we would expect from him, he brings his style of comedy to film which won’t please everyone but I laughed enough. (7/10)

Comedy: Ted 2 has a range of comedy but the smarter jokes do get pushed aside for sex and drug heavy jokes. (7/10)

Settings: Ted 2 doesn’t really make too much out of its settings, we get what you would expect but nothing much else. (3/10)

Suggestion: Ted 2 is one for the fans of the style of comedy, I can see a lot of people not liking this because they will find the comedy too much. (MacFarlane fans Watch)

Best Part: Liam Neeson Cameo.

Worst Part: No Mila Kunis.

Funniest Scene: Sperm Bank

Favourite Quote: Ted There are no chicks with dicks only guys with tits

Believability: No (0/10)

Chances of Tears: No (0/10)

Chances of Sequel: If it makes money I expect to see one.

Post Credits Scene: No

Oscar Chances: No

Box Office: $60 Million (Opening Weekend)

Budget: $68 Million

Runtime: 1 Hour 55 Minutes

Tagline: Thunder Buddies For Life

Overall: The Sequel you would expect, not quite as funny but still strong enough.

Rating 65

2014 Awards – Worst Male Performance

Through the month of January I will be looking back on 2014, I will be looking at a range of subjects where I will be picking my best or worst in separate posts.

Today I will be look at Worst Male Performance. Sometimes people will end up giving bad performance and these are my picks for that. I don’t consider any of these bad actors I just think this performance was bad.

Mentions that could have been number one;

Theo James – Divergent theo While starring opposite Shailene Woodley he struggles to make any acting impact and is clearly there for the girls. My Review

Mark Wahlberg – Transformers Age of Extinction cade In the role where you didn’t need to see any acting Mark is just given long words to make him sound smart. My Review

Johnny Depp – Transcendence depp In what was a film I was looking forward to, we got a poor performance from one of Hollywood top A list actors. My Review

My pick for worst

Seth MacFarlane – A Million Ways to Die in the Westseth Seth has done well with his voice over work be it television or film but making himself a leading man in a film, no he is not a lead actor. My Review
