Verdict: Fun Adventure Film

Story: The Rocketeer starts in 1938 as young pilot Cliff (Campbell) and his engineer Peevy (Arkin) find a mysterious jetpack in one of their planes after a group of mobsters crash in their airstrip. Neville Sinclair (Dalton) wants the rocket and has Eddie Valentine (Sorvino) and his men try to retrieve it.

With Neville turning out to be one of the biggest stars in an emerging Hollywood, Cliff’s girlfriend Jenny (Connelly) has a part in his latest movie, which brings him to the attention of Neville and his goons, once he uses the jetpack to save a friend.

Thoughts on The Rocketeer

Characters – Cliff is a quiet, shy and clumsy pilot, well clumsy on land, he has a blossoming romance with aspiring actress, he is always trying to prove he is the best in the sky and when he gets his hands on a jetpack he becomes the Rocketeer. Jenny is the aspiring actress that has only been getting small roles and only wishes Cliff would support her dreams more. Peevy is the engineer that can fix anything for Cliff, he watches him risk his life and knows he can handle himself. Neville Sinclair is a big-name actor in Hollywood, he wants to get his hands on the jetpack and will use his goons to get his hands on it.

PerformancesBilly Campbell is good in this leading role, you can see the innocent reactions in his eyes. Jennifer Connelly is good even if she is just mainly the damsel to Cliff’s character. Alan Arkin does get to have fun in his role, while Timothy Dalton works well as the primary villain in the film.

StoryThe story here follows a young man that suddenly gets the equipment to make him superhuman with the addition of the jetpack, though the mob are also after the jetpack and he must protect his friends from his secret. This is adapted from a graphic novel and you can see this as it is mostly an origin story about how Cliff became the Rocketeer. When it comes to the villains we get cliched mob figures throughout which is fine, but soon becomes tiresome with their reactions to everything going on. This is however a fun story that can be enjoyed throughout.

Action/Adventure/Sci-FiThe action in the film is a lot of fun because it is wildly over the top and fits the comic book ideas we are now used too. The adventure takes Cliff from a small time role of a pilot to one of the most wanted men in Hollywood and not for the good reasons. The sci-fi elements from the film come from the inclusion of the jetpack and how it comes from the mind of Howard Hughes.

SettingsThe film is set in Hollywood where we have the rise of mobsters in the corrupt on the early stages of Hollywood are shown through the use of the settings.

Special EffectsThe effects in the film are good for the most part, the flying sequences are a step forward from the old school Superman films and have dated when it comes to modern film stylings.

Scene of the Movie –
First time with the Rocket.

That Moment That Annoyed Me The mobsters feel too cliched.

Final ThoughtsThis is a nice fun film that can be enjoyed, it has dated in places but for a time when comic book movies didn’t come along that often this shows you can make them fun without them being connected.

Overall: Fun from start to finish.

Goodfellas (1990)

Starring: Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta, Joe Pesci, Lorrain Bracco, Paul Sorvino, Frank Sivero, Tony Darrow

Plot: The story of Henry Hill and his life through the teen years into the years of mafia, covering his relationship with wife Karen Hill and his Mob partners Jimmy Conway and Tommy DeVitto in the Italian-American crime syndicate.

There may be spoilers the rest of the review

Verdict: Classic but Not for Me

Story: Goodfellas starts as Henry Hill tells us all about why he wants to be a gangster from a young age, we learn how he got a chance in his early teenage ages, where he made more money that his father and after spending his time in jail he is all grown up. Henry (Liotta) works with Tommy DeVito (Pesci) under the James Conway (De Niro) who all answer to Paul Cicero (Sorvino).

Henry rising up the ranks has built himself a reputation and once he starts dating Karen (Bracco) who becomes his wife. When Tommy murders a high-ranking member of the Mafia James and Henry help him cover it up as they continue to build their reputation. This is the rise and fall of Henry Hill as the truth about his identity comes outs.

Thoughts on Goodfellas

Characters/PerformanceHenry Hill is telling us the story, he is quiet man who wants to be a gangster, we follow his story as he rose the ranks in the Mafia, we see how far he goes and what he needs to do to clean up the mess he finds him in. James or Jimmy is the top ranked of the three, he makes the deals and makes sure everyone stays in line. Tommy is the hot head that shots first always leaving the others in danger.

Performance wise, De Niro is great in what is a supporting role in a genre he is brilliant in. Liotta is the star of the show and is fantastic through the whole film. Joe Pesci gives one of the most iconic gangster performances of all time here.

StoryThe story of one man’s life inside the Mafia is always interesting but the reality is it can only be seen a number of times before we know how it will all unfold. Yes, this is one of the most popular of all time but I do feel it is just fine for a non-gangster film fan.

CrimeThe crime world we enter into is everything we would have come to expect and it is easily the strong point of the film.

SettingsThe settings all fit the time the film is set in showing the environment the characters are in.

Final ThoughtsThis is a classic and I can see all the good points about the film but it just isn’t a film I will want to watch again.

Overall: This is a classic of the genre.

Movie Reviews 101 Midnight Halloween Horror – Jersey Shore Shark Attack (2012)

jersey shoreDirector: John Shepphird

Writer: John Shepphird, Jeffrey Schenck, Peter Sullivan, Michael Ciminra, Richard Gnolfo (Screenplay)

Plot: The locals of the Jersey Shore find themselves under attack from Sharks.

There may be spoilers the rest of the review

Verdict: So Bad it is Hilarious

Story: Jersey Shore Shark Attack starts as we see a young couple eaten by sharks yay a shark movie that kills. We move to meet all of the Jersey Shore guys TC (Luke), Donnie (Russo) and Balzac (Booko) as well as the girls Nooki (Molinaro), J-Moni (Mauriello) and BJ (Resendez).

Getting ready for 4th of July weekend we see the boys drink and party while upsetting the girls, I feel like I am going to hate this film on new levels of hate. We see how Dolan (Atherton) has been working to change the image of the area when they start getting attacked by sharks.

Jersey Shore Shark Attack is a simple story of an area getting attack by sharks but by putting it in Jersey Shore we get all off the comedy need to make this one of the funniest films of recent times. It is funny because of how bad it is but achieving this we get something that can be watched with ease.

Actor Review

Jack Scalia: Moretti is the chief of police that tries to protect TC from ever going behind bars because of his troubles. By doing this he has to make a deal with Dolan. Jack is solid very typical character for the role.

Paul Sorvino: Mayor Palantine is the man when it comes Jersey Shore. He reopens the beaches once they believe they have captured the shark only to find out he has made a mistake. Paul is clearly here to have a bigger name in the film.

William Atherton: Dolan is trying to redesign the area to make this a tourist hot spot, he only wants certain people to come to the area and will do anything to make that happen. William is solid in the weasel like businessman performance.

Jeremy Luke: TC is the leader of the guy of Jersey Shore he is having problems with his girl Nooki but when one of his boys goes missing he leads the rest in trying to figure out what happened to them. Jeremy is funny in this role which seems to be the leading role.

Support Cast: Jersey Shore Shark Attack has a supporting cast that makes complete fun of all of the Jersey Shore stereotypes which adds to comedy.

Director Review: John ShepphirdJohn turns what could be a terrible film that turns into one of my favourite comedies.

Action: Jersey Shore Shark Attack has shark filled action which is mostly CGI.

Comedy: Jersey Shore Shark Attack is a film which made me laugh the most in recent times.

Horror: Jersey Shore Shark Attack has blood and gore but all CGI filled.

Settings: Jersey Shore Shark Attack keeps everything on the Jersey Shore which makes this have added comedy.
Special Effects
: Jersey Shore Shark Attack doesn’t have any good special effects involved.

Suggestion: Jersey Shore Shark Attack is one late night TV treat which will make you laugh for reasons it shouldn’t. (Late Night TV)

Best Part: Comedy.

Worst Part: CGI.

Funniest Scene: When the friends find a boat with blood on and one asks is spaghetti sauce.

Believability: No

Chances of Tears: No

Chances of Sequel: No

Post Credits Scene: No

Oscar Chances: No

Runtime: 1 Hour 27 Minutes

Tagline: Your Worst Fears Will Service

Trivia: The guy with the popcorn getting knocked down wasn’t supposed to happen, but the filmmakers liked the moment so much that they kept it in the movie.

Overall: This could be the new guilty pleasure of mine.

Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008)

Director: Darren Lynn Bousman

Starring: Alexa Vega, Paul Sorvino, Anthony Head, Sarah Birightman, Paris Hilton, Bill Moseley, Nivek Ogre, Terrance Zdunich, Sarah Power

After the a worldwide epidemic a biotech company GenCo offer an organ transplant with the payment set out as a loan. However there is a catch if you miss a re-payment a repoman will come and take the organ back. With the black market offering zydrate a new painkilling drug taken from dead bodies. We enter the world very different to what we are used to seeing.

Our heroine is Shilo (Alexa Vega) and sick young girl who unable to go outside due to her sickness but secretly sneaks off to her mothers grave. Her curiosity of bugs lands her in trouble when she bumps into the GraveRobber (Terrance Zdunich) doing what he does best collecting zydrate, only the alarms go off and all grave trespassers get shot on site. Shilo gets caught but the Repo Man stops them killing her.

The Repo Man (Anthony Head) is Shilo father (but she doesn’t know it)  job is given to him by Rotti (Paul Sorvino) after Repo Man who’s everyday name is Nathan believes he is responsible for Marni his wife’s death. Rotti himself is dying he has to find an heir for his job as head of GenCo and his three children are only disappointing. Amber Sweet (Paris Hilton) addicted to surgery and zydrate. Luigi (Bill Moseley) is hot headed and just kills people in a heart beat. Pavi who wears a different face for each event he attends. also to make Rotti’s job harder his poster girl Blind Mag (Sarah Brightman) wants to leave.

Rotti sets out the talk Shilo into being the new poster girl for his company by promising to cure her sickness, while he sends Nathan out to kill Blind Mag lets the opera start who will be left standing when all the blood is spilt? Who will be in charge of GenCo?

The thing that makes this movie stand out above the rest is the rock opera with everything being sung through out the film with some very catchy songs and some bad ones but hey. Each location is very dark showing how down the world has become. the story is easy to follow told in a simple enough format but also keeps the twists in the story a surprise.

This movie came from a play created by Terrance Zdunich which was meant to have to more in the series a sequel and prequel but due to it poor performance at the box office it looks very unlikely we will get the second and third film.

I personal enjoy this movie as it is original and we don’t get many rock opera movies i will give this movie a 89%
