Midnight Mass – Episode Seven, Book VII: Revelation – Glorious Conclusion

Story: Midnight Mass, Episode Seven, Book VII: Revelation starts with the survivors of the incident in the church on the run, Erin, Sarah, Annie, Sheriff Hassan, Warren and Leeza going on the run from a now blood hungry island of residents looking to eliminate anyone who doesn’t agree with Father Paul and Bev’s beliefs.

This will become a battle for survival, as the numbers against the main group continue to grow, as Bev continues to believe the religious motivation behind everything is continuing to grow, seeing this as God’s cause, while the creature continues to be the deadliest threat on the island.

Thoughts on Midnight Mass, Episode Seven, Book VII: Revelation

Thoughts – Midnight Mass, Episode Seven, Book VII: Revelation is the final episode in the series that will see the survivors needing to find a way off the island before becoming the latest victims, make it to sunlight and they should be safe. This does have the thrills, scares everything needed for the best part of the horror in this show. The strangest part of the show is suddenly putting more of a spotlight upon Warren and Leeza, who have barely been involved in the rest of the show, Warren especially, Leeza did have one moment in an early episode. This might well have the shocking moments in the final sequences, it does however fall into some lazy choices against one of the characters, ones that leave little to the imagination.

Star of the Episode – Bev – Bev takes full centre stage in this final episode, becoming the pure evil her, religious obsessed figure has become with the events of the show unfolding. Demanding, evil and the best performance in the show.

Best Part of the Episode – Reality Hitting.

Final Thoughts – Midnight Mass, Episode Seven, Book VII: Revelation does tie together everything together, with the chaos involved, leaving part of you feeling empty inside.

Midnight Mass – Episode Six – Book VI: Acts of the Apostles – Finally Gets to the Horror

Story: Midnight Mass, Episode Six, Book VI: Acts of the Apostles starts in the aftermath of the shocking conclusion of the last episode with Erin needing to make the difficult decision on whether to return to the island to try and save everyone, or run. Back on the island Father Paul sees that Riley hasn’t returned, knowing he might well have lost one of his flock, with Bev Keane starting to take control of the situation. Erin doesn’t know who to turn to, with only Dr Gunning being one she could trust, with both sides needing to see who is supporting who, as the battle lines start to be drawn up between the residents on the island.

Thoughts on Midnight Mass, Episode Six, Book VI: Acts of the Apostles

Thoughts – Midnight Mass, Episode Six, Book VI: Acts of the Apostles is the episode that will bring us the first major look at the two major sides of the resident on the island, we have seen it slowly building up from the previous episodes. This is dealing with a shocking moment happening before, as we finally get to see the bigger picture revealed to us all. We see how residents of the island are facing the reality of what might be happening, with them being left to make the big decision. This is the episode that we have been waiting for, it might well have taken too long to get here, but now we are here, we can enjoy the glorious horror unleashed on us.

Star of the Episode – Bev Keane – spending most of the series as the one planning for the bigger moment, she gets to shine on the highest possible level in this episode, one which will see the most of the cast shine, this one will let Bev hit the highest level possible.

Best Part of the Episode – Ceremony

Final Thoughts – Midnight Mass, Episode Six, Book VI: Acts of the Apostles is the episode we have been waiting for, the one that unleashes everyone on us.

Midnight Mass – Episode Five, Book V: Gospel – Failing to Spark

Story: Midnight Mass, Episode Five, Book V: Gospel starts with Riley vanishing on the island, leaving Erin needing to turn to Sheriff Hassan for help, as Riley’s family feel he might have just fallen off the wagon again. Dr Gunning gets to take her mother to mass for the first time in years, with the changes she has been through, only to become worried with the new ideas that Father Paul is putting together.

As Riley reappears, we learn about the day he spends with Father Paul, learning about the transformation he is going through, showing the change that is coming to the island, with the angel watching over the residents, or as Father Paul likes to put it.

Thoughts on Midnight Mass, Episode Five, Book V: Gospel

Thoughts – Midnight Mass, Episode Five, Book V: Gospel does start to show us more about what is happening with the mysterious visitor, with the religious argument coming into play, with the idea it could well be an angel, while it seems clear to be something else. This is another episode that finds itself being held down by too much dialogue instead of giving us enough of the horror side of show. We find ourselves wanting a lot more by now, despite the fact we have the big concept put together, we are falling into too much of the religious discussions, leaving us without the direction we need to stand out. This show is fast becoming one of the flatter in the horror world, offering us up very little in the horror elements involved.

Star of the Episode – Father Paul – Father Paul needs to explain the position he finds himself him, teaching Riley about what is going on, demanding he accepts the changes he is going through, being the person involved in the impact moments in the show to date.

Best Part of the Episode – I’m Not Scared of You

Final Thoughts – Midnight Mass, Episode Five, Book V: Gospel continues to fall into the conversation heavy, over any scary levels, lacking any spark it had built up.

Midnight Mass – Episode Four, Book IV: Lamentations – The Mystery Is Holding Things Together

Story: Midnight Mass, Episode Four, Book IV: Lamentations starts in the aftermath of the startling revelation about Father Paul, while Erin receives the shocking news about her baby, the fact that it isn’t there anymore, with any signs that she could have miscarried.

As Riley and Erin look further back in their lives, what changed, what happened between their time away and what they are looking to change with their new look at faith. Father Paul must learn to adapt to the transformation he has been through.

Thoughts on Midnight Mass, Episode Four, Book IV: Lamentations

Thoughts – Midnight Mass, Episode Four, Book IV: Lamentations is a mixed bag episode, on one side we get plenty of mystery going on, which will only make us want to know more from the island and what is happening to the residents, this is everything good, something we want to see and learn so much more from. On the bad side, we get a lot of long conversations which don’t feel like they are needed, being too much to deal with. This is a story that is starting to rely on the bigger mystery going on, rather than showing us enough shocking value of what is going on, despite the fact it seems like we are starting to put the pieces together with what is going on. This does lack of any of the truly scary moments, this time, which is starting to drag the show down, leaving us wanting more from what we are seeing.

Star of the Episode – Erin Greene – Erin does go through the biggest shocking reveal in the series to date, it is a pain that can’t even be explained, despite her having a lot of slow dialogue moments, the character stands out in this episode because of what she has been through.

Best Part of the Episode – I am proud of you Joe.

Final Thoughts – Midnight Mass, Episode Four, Book IV: Lamentations is starting to slip into too much conversation, with the mystery coming together is holding everything together.

Midnight Mass – Episode Three, Book III: Proverbs – The Battle Lines Are Drawn

Story: Midnight Mass, Episode Three, Book III: Proverbs starts in the aftermath of the miracle in the last episode, where we continue to see how Father Paul has found his way into the position, as his new methods has seen the biggest turn outs in years in the church, with everyone looking for their own miracle to help them get through everyday life.

With most of the town starting to feel more positive, a confrontation of forgiveness will look to change the mindset of the people involved, while Sheriff Hassan questions how the public schools decision to give out the Bible, over his own faith Muslim beliefs.

Thoughts on Midnight Mass, Episode Three, Book III: Proverbs

Thoughts – Midnight Mass, Episode Three, Book III: Proverbs starts to get to the deeper meaning behind everything going on, on the island, where Father Paul starts to see the change in religious mentality on the island, with the heavy Christian influence, being challenge by the Muslim Sheriff wanting to see the study of other religions, not just the Christian one, in the public school. The tension in the film does seem to be sizzling, without diving into the full horror yet, with this episode focusing more deeper meaning in education of religion. We will get the first sighting of the creature lurking on the island too, which is what we have been waiting to see.

Star of the Episode – Sheriff Hassan – The Sheriff gets the focus on this episode, which will see how he is starting to question a few changes happening on the island, diving into his past, while having the biggest heart to heart he could with his son.

Best Part of the Episode – The religious debate.

Final Thoughts – Midnight Mass, Episode Three, Book III: Proverbs has the bigger religious debate, showing what might be coming to this island with the next biggest threat.

Midnight Mass – Episode Two – Book II: Psalms – More Building

Story: Midnight Mass, Episode Two, Book II: Psalms starts with the discovery of hundreds of dead cats on the shore after the storm hit, with Sheriff Hassan (Kohli) looking to discovery what might have caused this incident.

Father Paul is continuing to meet the residents of the island, looking to understand why some don’t attend the weekly ceremony, looking to make his own impact on the island, while Riley continues to open up to his old flame Erin.

Thoughts on Midnight Mass, Episode Two, Book II: Psalms

Thoughts – Midnight Mass, Episode Two, Book II: Psalms might well start with the shock moment, but quickly falls back into more character building, the rebuilding of friendship between Riley and Erin, as they both look back on what happened between them. Father Paul trying to make a bigger impact on the island, meeting and pushing more people with his unusual methods and the investigation about the animal deaths on the island, which sadly, seems like it gets pushed to the back on the story. We do get the moments of horror, with the continuing appearance of the mysterious figure in the shadows, with most always being glimpses, rather than giving us any threat to what is happening or it wants. This episode does feel like not much happens for the bigger picture, leaving a flatter feeling than the last one.

Star of the Episode – Father Paul – being the newest member of the island, he starts to look to understand more of the residents, which will see him push people with his technique, with certain ones not always coming off as friendly as they seem.

Best Part of the Episode – The Body of Christ.

Final Thoughts – Midnight Mass, Episode Two, Book II: Psalms continues to focus on character development, over the horrors which we are waiting for, with glimpses of what is to come.

Midnight Mass – Episode One – Book 1: Genesis – The Introduction to the World

Story: Midnight Mass, Episode One, Book 1: Genesis starts 4-years after a accident Riley Flynn (Gilford) is released from prison, returning to Crockett Island, where his parents Ed (Thomas) and Annie (Lehman) call home. We go on to meet the residents of the island, with Sheriff Hassan (Kohli), the town drunk Joe, the town doctor Sarah Gunning (Gish), stuck up resident Bev (Sloyan) along with Riley’s little brother Wade (Rigney) who spends his free time with friends getting high.

The residents on the island are preparing for a storm to come their way, as an unusual package arrives on the island, one that will see the mysterious cat island seeing the cats picked off and a stranger Father Paul (Linklater) taking over the church for a few weeks, add to the suspicious nature of what is happening on the island.

Thoughts on Midnight Mass, Episode One, Book 1: Genesis

Thoughts – Midnight Mass, Episode One, Book 1: Genesis is the introduction to the characters, giving each character a chance to be introduced, given enough to help us understand their place on the island, while giving us the main surprise within the introduction of a new figure on the island. This episode is the perfect set up for something bigger in the future, wanting to let us know what is coming with the storm, the uncertainty of a legend around the island too. If you are looking for the pure horror side for this episode, we only get the nightmare visions Riley lives through due to his own creation and the mystery about what is around the island.

Star of the Episode – Riley – with this being an introduction episode, it is hard to pinpoint the star of the episode, but with the haunting living nightmare visions Riley goes through and the regret, pain he lives through, because of his own mistake, this is the character you want to learn more about in the episode.

Best Part of the Episode – Is that someone in the storm?

Final Thoughts – Midnight Mass, Episode One, Book 1: Genesis is a great introduction to the world we are going to be entering for the series.
