Do We Care About the Oscars?

The idea behind this is to look back at every single film that was nominated for,

·         Best Picture

·         Best Actor

·         Best Actress

·         Best Supporting Actor

·         Best Supporting Actress

·         Best Director

By looking back at these I will be asking the questions below to find out whether this is a film to be watched or not. This is not a full review and if I have seen the film in question I will give my rating of said film. I will also not be comparing or suggesting any other films that could or should have won this is just looking at a film and seeing if it still stands in the memory.

Film: Selmaselma

Oscar Wins: 1 Best Original Song.

Oscar Nominations: 1 Best Picture

Have I Seen It?

Yes – My Rating 87%

Will I Watch It Again? Yes.

Should Everyone Have Seen It? I do because I feel it is an important part of history.

Most Memorable Part? Bridge scenes.

Thoughts On the Film: I thought this film helped tell an important chapter of the Martin Luthor King story and his campaign to secure equal voting rights. We all know the I have a dream speech but this was just as important for his campaign. This shows how things started to change and how important this moment was history.

Do We Care It Got Oscar Attention? My personally feeling is that it was this film that caused all of the racial tension against the Oscar committee because David Oyelowo gives a stunning performance that did deserve Oscar attention and got overlooked. The Best picture nomination was deserved and for the story being told we have an important on here.king

Film: Into the Woodsinto

Oscar Wins: Zero

Oscar Nominations: 3, Best Actress in Supporting Role, Bet Costume Design and Best Production Design.

Have I Seen It?

Yes – My Rating 60%

Will I Watch It Again? Not unless I haven’t but mostly because it isn’t the type of film I enjoy.

Should Everyone Have Seen It? No, mostly because this is a film that the musical fans out there will enjoy only.

Most Memorable Part? Chris Pine was the highlight of the film as Prince Charming with the line ‘I was raised to be charming, not sincere’.

Thoughts On the Film: For me this is one of the films which slapped together big name stars with Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Emily Blunt and Chris Pine and make them sing to all the fairy tales you would have heard when you were young.

Do We Care It Got Oscar Attention? No and it didn’t deserve the Oscar attention.

Overall this is the Oscar Godess (Streep), the strongest female action star (Blunt), that chat show host people seem to think is funny (James Corden), The pitch perfect girl (Anna Kendrick), Captain Kirk (Pine) and soon to be Wonder Woman’s bitch (Pine) with the guy that just seems to have lost the plot when it comes to picking his movies (Depp) all singing with a few being quite average too.

Film: The Judgejudge

Oscar Wins: Zero.

Oscar Nominations: 1 Best Supporting Actor

Have I Seen It?

No, Why Not? I have only heard mixed things about the film and didn’t really get much advertisement in UK.

Will I Watch It? Yes I will one day it is getting closer to the top of my pile.

Should Everyone Have Seen It? I do think this film feels like it should only be watched if you like the style of film and it won’t appeal to the masses.

Most Memorable Part? When I see it I will tell you.

Do We Care It Got Oscar Attention? I do feel this nomination for Robert Duvall is more out of respect for the actor over the performance itself.

Well I don’t have too many comic references here with just Ironman defending Tom from the Godfather.group

Have I Seen It?

Yes – My Rating 92%

Will I Watch It Again? One day I would I watch this again.

Should Everyone Have Seen It? I do think people should see this and it could be something for school kids to see when studying war.

Most Memorable Part? Learning about Alan Turing.

Thoughts On the Film: I still say the same thing about this film, I do think it was an important part of history that needs to be seen by everyone just to show how much Alan overcame to play his part in us winning World War II.

Do We Care It Got Oscar Attention? This is a film that I don’t want to make fun of because I do think it deserve the attention because of how Alan overcame everything even though if it was set in the current world none of his personal choice would have made a God damn difference.

Oscar Wins: 1 Best Sound Editing.

Oscar Nominations: 5, Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Editing, Best Sound Mixing.

Have I Seen It?

Yes – My Rating 70%

Will I Watch It Again? No

Should Everyone Have Seen It? No because it is all about making America look like the strongest war hero country.

Most Memorable Part? I honestly can’t remember anything from this film.

Thoughts On the Film: The film is so centred around trying to make out how much of a hero Chris Kyle was but also how he struggled with his personally life between conflict. In the end this is a long film that is a lot of slow building scenes with the sniper shots going on and nothing much else.

Do We Care It Got Oscar Attention? No because this is a very dull film that didn’t deserve the praise it received.
