2017 Award Hidden Gems

2017 Award

Hidden Gems

January is here and that means award season and for the whole of January I will be looking at a range of best and worst subjects, these are the films that could easily have been over looked this year and I highly recommend.

NOMINATIONS

Ghosts of Darkness

The Discovery

Gremlin

Wakefield

Sleight

Moon Dogs

Anti Matter

The Warrior’s Gate

Skybound

Winner

Anti Matter

Reason – This is a sci-fi film that could easily have been the sci-fi film of the year on any other year, this low budget film makes us think as we watch the story unfold. This film is one of the thinking person’s sci-fi movies which is always a pleasure to watch, making this my pick for the best hidden gem of the year.

2017 Award

Best Horror

January is here and that means award season and for the whole of January I will be looking at a range of best and worst subjects, this year I have decided to only pick films that are within the UK release dates of 2017 so if you do see a few films you would expect to have seen last year that is the reason behind my madness.

NOMINATIONS

The Covenant

The Covenant Poster

Split

Get Out

Gerald’s Game

Belko Experiment

Gremlin

It Comes at Night

Annabelle Creation

IT

The Ritual

The Babysitter

Winner

Get Out

Reason – This movie has made such an impact in Hollywood this year it is even being considered for the Oscar nomination for Best Picture and is even a favourite for it. The horror is all psychological which makes nearly every scene tension filled while addresses social issues, the cast are fantastic and the directing from Jordan Peele is strategical and up there with the best in the business.

2017 Award Worst Horror

2017 Award

Worst Horror

January is here and that means award season and for the whole of January I will be looking at a range of best and worst subjects, before going into what I think are the true best nominations.

NOMINATIONS

Don’t Hand Up

Don't Hang Up Poster

Rings

The Bye Bye Man

Open Water 3: Cage Dive

Leatherface

Flatliners

1922

Jigsaw

Winner

Open Water 3: Cage Dive

Reason – Wow this was a bad selection of horrors, we had terrible sequels, reboots, prequels and a few original ideas that just didn’t work, but this one must take the worse film of the year.

Here is why, it is the third film about people being left in the ocean, seriously how many times do you need to do the same thing, it is called Cage Dive, they are in the cage for about 1 minute of the movie and make the worst decisions in the history of movies.

2017 Award Biggest Disappointment

Biggest Disappointment

January is here and that means award season and for the whole of January I will be looking at a range of best and worst subjects, this film is the one that I felt had the most potential to be good, but only disappoints.

Winner

The Mummy

The Mummy Poster

Reason – When they were going to reboot the Mummy for a Dark Universe it sounded ambitious and something as a horror fan I wanted to work. In the end this movie got mixed and lost in the idea of being multiple things, it wanted to be a unique action film, it wasn’t, it wanted to build a universe, it was too in our face and it just turned into a Tom Cruise heavy action film (Which I do normal enjoy), this film was miss-cast to leave us with stars that are going to be too old for a franchise that could have run for 10-20 years and not giving us an up and coming star who could make this their own role.

2017 Award Best Comedy

2017 Award

Best Comedy

January is here and that means award season and for the whole of January I will be looking at a range of best and worst subjects, before going into what I think are the true best nominations.

NOMINATIONS

Table 19

Baby Driver

Moon Dogs

The Big Sick

Girls Trip

Ingrid Goes West

The Babysitter

Psych: The Movie

Winner

Baby Driver

Reason – This is a slick action comedy with music for each and every scene, we have humour when it comes to the action movies without being a parody in a way that only Edgar Wright can do.
