Movie Reviews 101 Film of the Year 2014

Today I will be look at my pick for the best film of the year. Unlike yesterdays which was my favourite popcorn films.  Today will include most of the Oscar nominated films and I will be picking just five.

Mentions that could have been number one;

Foxcatcher foxcatcher This was one film I knew very little about going into, I knew it focused on an Olympic wrestler and his trainer and that was it, not knowing the true story really did make this one of the most edge of the seat thrillers I saw last year.

Boyhood boyhood When it comes to film making this will top anything anybody will see in a long time, the commitment to make this happen is unbelievable and it all pays off in one of the most interesting films of the year.

Birdman birdman This film got all the hype, the buzz of all of them out this year and it didn’t disappoint. It will make you think and with its dark comedy it will keep you wondering just what is really going on.

Nightcrawler nightcrawlerOut of the selection this is the most likely to appeal to the general film goer, Jake Gyllenhaal gives us a stunning performance as the man set ting his goals and breaking through them as he goes ultra-dark in search for the perfect footage.

Movie Reviews 101 Film of the Year

Whiplash whiplash This has to be my pick for the best film of 2014 because it is such a boring subject matter but it ends up being one of the most intense films I have ever seen. It has brilliant chemistry between the leads and a final scene that will take your breath away.

2014 Awards – Popcorn Film of the Year

Through the month of January I will be looking back on 2014, I will be looking at a range of subjects where I will be picking my best or worst in separate posts.

Today I will be look at Popcorn Film of the Year. I have enjoyed a lot of films this year and this was hard to pick just the five here.

Mentions that could have been number one;

The Raid 2 raid 2 In what was one of the best action films you could ever see, this film is full of pulse-pounding action that will leave you breathless by the end. My Review

22 Jump Street 22 jump stere While it is very rare for me to enjoy a comedy this much, this one satisfied all my need in the comedy genre with nearly a laugh a minute.

Interstellar inter This was number one on my anticipation list at the start of the year and didn’t let me down, it was one of the best sci-fi films ever made on an intelligence level. My Review

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes dawn I did think this would be good but nothing prepared me for a film of this standard, that shows how much two sides don’t want to have war. My Review

My favourite

Guardians of the Galaxy guardians In a year of Blockbuster films that seemed to come from many angles this one was one that many were looking forward to seeing but I don’t think many people were thinking this could be the most fun comic book adaptation every made. My Review

Today I will be look at Worst Film. Here are the films that I had to sit through even though they turned out to be just plain bad.

Mentions that could have been number one;

Hercules hercules I know I have be very critical of this film because of how it feels just like a remake of the Scorpion King and failed to really offer any sort of action that I was expecting. My review

Leprechaun: Origins – I know a lot of horror films can come off badly but this one too the cookie for me just terrible, with little to no scares and a title that makes no sense to what so ever. My Review

Sabotage sabtago We saw Arnold Schwarzenegger’s name on the film and we had to watch but what we ended up getting a terrible action film that just tries to have too violence for the sake of having it. My Review

The Quiet Ones quiet ones The horror genre again here but this time we have a supernatural idea that really lacks any punches and tries to have scares without really succeeding.  My Review

My pick for worst

A Million Ways to Die in the West a million ways to die in the west By now you must know that I really didn’t like this film and having Seth MacFarlane as a leading man doesn’t work, this has no laughs and gets miss-sold by the trailer. My Review

Mentions that could have been number one;

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 spiderman 2I have picked this one because it was left to open after giving us something we were looking forward from the trailer. My Review

Rio 2 rio 2 The first one was on the edge of acceptable while this one soon turned into something forgettable.

My pick for worst

Transformers Age of Extinction transforemrs I don’t know why I would think this would be good but I fell for it and we got the same action where we can’t tell who is on whose side. My Review
