Precinct Seven Five (2014) Movie Review

Precinct Seven Five – Movie Review

Precinct Seven Five

Director: Tiller Russell

Plot: Meet the dirtiest cop in NYC history. Michael Dowd stole money and dealt drugs while patrolling the streets of 80s Brooklyn.

Runtime: 1 Hour 44 Minutes

There may be spoilers in the rest of the review

Verdict on Precinct Seven Five

Precinct Seven Five is a documentary following the dirty cops that operated in 1980s New York. Michael Dowd was the ring leader working with the drug lords to make money for himself. This saw how the team came together to make this operation happen and how they didn’t see anything being wrong.

The interviews included the cops who took advantage of the situation. It also followed the drug dealers who were left helpless in the situation. This is a scary reality to see how the police had all the power and let things get out of control.

However, this seems to put a lot of focus on that they didn’t think they did anything wrong and that it was an honest way to do things. It doesn’t get enough focus on what should have changed or anything along those lines.

Final Thoughts Precinct Seven Five is an ego heavy documentary.

This sees a change in Kevin, as he becomes dangerous to the people around him. Elsewhere, Casey and Dan start diving deeper into trying to understand their father’s research, making a disturbing discovery.

Verdict on First Contact

First Contact is a sci-fi thriller following estranged siblings trying to understand what happened to their father. It sees them learning about his research and learning the shocking truth about what he discovered. All while a menacing presence has taken over the body of a local, causing destructive damage within the community.

This is an interesting idea for a sci-fi movie. We have seen similar, but this one looks to dive in heavier on people that committed more time to understanding extra-terrestrial life. This looks to use the broken family relationship to cast doubt while working together sheds light on discoveries. We are kept guessing as to what is real or not, which takes us down a path of uncertainty. However, it never manages to reach the shock value it seems to want to.

Final Thoughts First Contact is filled with mystery and suspense.

However, the hunger in William is still there and as a teenager, he runs away to meet his uncle Roy (Ulrich). He reluctantly lets William join in on the storm-chasing tours under ruthless boss Zane (Baldwin). Meanwhile, Quinn looks to reunite with her son before he does something reckless. However, William wants to finish the work his father started that could change the warning system forever.

Verdict on Supercell

Supercell is an action thriller following the son of a storm-chaser that looks to follow in his footsteps against his mother’s will. He runs away from home to meet up with fellow distant family members to learn about it. This gives him an up close and personal account of storm-chasing.

It has been a while since we had a movie about tornadoes and with the incoming sequel to Twister coming, this feels like an early taste. We get a storyline that feels similar to the motivation while tackling the fear of following someone into a dangerous world. However, when it gets everything unfolding, it does feel safe and the tornado moments never feel as intense as they could be. We get a strong cast with newcomers Daniel Diemer and Jordan Kristine Seamon easily joining the big names.

Where to Watch: Supercell will be available on Digital Download from 12th June.

Final Thoughts Supercell is an intense storm-chasing thriller.

As Billy gets used to his new surroundings, he learns about the questionable activities being done by his fellow pilots. This leads to him needing to make a big decision about his future, as the role becomes more dangerous as the Vietnam war starts to become a bigger problem for the pilot.

Verdict on Air America

Air America is an action comedy following a group of rogue pilots in Vietnam that use the cover of helping the locals to run an illegal CIA operation. It sees a rookie pilot of the area learning about the operation, as the rest of the crew try to keep it secret from a visiting senator.

This is a movie that gets to explore another story in the Vietnam war. Showing how Americans would have used their methods to profit off an invasion they created. However, this is told in a light-hearted manner to help make us support Gene and Billy. The performances from Gibson and Downey Jr are good throughout the film, as are most of the cast.

Final Thoughts Air America is an entertaining action comedy.

When Jake calls the police, he finds himself being told a certain. However, Detective Rinaldi (Carneiro) isn’t so sure the story is the truth. This leads to an investigation that opens up a new twist in the story.

Verdict on The Last Stop

The Last Stop is a mystery thriller following a father that sees his family vanish. When the police start investigating, things take a dramatic turn that doesn’t quite seem correct. We get to dive into the story and see what is really going on.

This does give us an interesting mystery and one that does have twists along the way. It does leave us in a position of being unsure of what we would do in the same position as Jake. While the mystery is excellent to see unfold. We could easily have spent more time with the characters to give the movie more depth. The performances are strong as get their characters show us their true motives throughout the movie. This is a great thriller with a story that keeps you guessing.

Where to Watch: The Last Stop is available on Amazon Prime Now.

Final Thoughts The Last Stop is a great thriller that keeps you guessing along.

However, Rick manages to escape and his father Jack (Cusack) looks to clear up the problem. Meanwhile, Rick refuses to stop searching for his wife, as Breslin starts tracking him down.

Verdict on Pursuit

Pursuit is a crime thriller following a hacker searching for answers about his wife while being pursued by a determined detective. This sees them diving into the deeper mystery, while the hacker shows a ruthless side to searching for answers.

Pursuit is a movie that doesn’t manage to hit home the way it could have. The fact that Rick openly kills people so ruthlessly, fails to give him any sort of sympathy. As the detective never feels like he is smart enough to be on this case. This ends up being a string of ideas that come together and plays into the old bad guy and cop works together for a bigger bad guy. However, they never feel as connected as they could, leaving the whole thing feeling flat.

Where to Watch: Pursuit will be available on Digital Download from 12th June and can be pre-ordered HERE

Final Thoughts Pursuit is a thriller that lacks a real bite.

Magic in the Moonlight – Movie Review

Magic in the Moonlight

Writer: Woody Allen (Screenplay)

Cast

Plot: A romantic comedy about an Englishman brought in to help unmask a possible swindle. Personal and professional complications ensue.

Runtime: 1 Hour 37 Minutes

There may be spoilers in the rest of the review

As Stanley starts investigating Sophie (Stone), he sees his own opportunity to make a big comeback. This sees Stanley’s life change as Sophie becomes the centre of attention and he starts questioning his own desire to feel love.

Verdict on Magic in the Moonlight

Magic in the Moonlight is a romantic comedy following an illusionist who looks to expose a medium. He looks for the tell-tell signs until he starts to struggle to see the signs he needs. However, the more time he spends with her, the more he starts to fall in love with her.

This is one of the typical Woody Allen movies, that tries to create an awkward figure struggling in his world. He gets something new to make him feel welcomed only for everything else to start unfolding around him. There isn’t too much to get behind here and by the end of the movie, you will feel like nothing much has happened. This is nothing against the performances that are strong from the cast, it is the story that holds everything back.

Final Thoughts Magic in the Moonlight is a flat romantic comedy.

Dead Shot (2023) Movie Review

Dead Shot – Movie Review

Dead Shot

Director: Charles Guard, Thomas Guard

Writer: Thomas Guard, Charles Guard (Screenplay)

Writer: Steven P Moysey (Book)

Cast

Plot: A retired Irish paramilitary witnesses the fatal shooting of his pregnant wife by an SAS officer. After outwitting the SAS, now wounded, and presumed dead, he escapes, taking his revenge to the dark and paranoid streets of 1970’s London.

Runtime: 1 Hour 32 Minutes

There may be spoilers in the rest of the review

Story: Dead Shot starts when wanted criminal Michael O’Hara (Morgan) tries to escape his life with his pregnant wife. However, tragedy strikes when the army catches up with him and Tempest (Ameen) accidentally kills his wife.

In the aftermath, Tempest gets offered a role under Holland (Strong). This would give him a chance to avoid prison for the shooting. Meanwhile, Michael returns to people he knows, including Catherine (Jones), to get his revenge on the people who took everything from him.

Verdict on Dead Shot

Dead Shot is an action thriller follows two men caught up in the middle of the war between the English and the IRA. It sees a member of the Irish group witness his family kill, while the soldier is haunted by the events. They soon clash again, when they meet on the streets of London where they get involved in a bigger war.

This movie gets to show us how innocent people can find themselves caught up in a terrorist war. It shows us that the characters can become haunted by what happens and driven by vengeance. The consequences feel real and the remorse is carried through their lives. Where this movie can struggle by showing the behind-the-scenes in the battle. Focusing more on the two men whose lives changed because of the incident between them. This stops everything from feeling as intense as it could do, despite the highly explosive nature of everything.

Final Thoughts Dead Shot is a thriller that doesn’t spark enough intensity.
