Story: Ainbo: Spirit of the Amazon starts when Ainbo an orphaned young girl looks to connect to her own spirit guide in the Amazon, like her mother did before, her best friend Zumi is about to take over the local tribe and wants Ainbo by her side, only for Atok being against her, with the tribe suffering from an illness.

As Ainbo finally meets her spirit guides Dillo an Armadillo and Vaca a Tapir, the three travel through the rainforest to locate the truth about what could be destroying their home, something Ainbo can save them all from.

Thoughts on Ainbo: Spirit of the Amazon

Characters – Ainbo is the young girl that wants to be the best hunter, defender, and member of her Amazon tribe. She is often seen as an outsider within the tribe, which has seen her needing to go on her own quest to unlock her own spirit guides to learn about her place in the tribe. Ainbo is the heart and soul of the story, always wanting to do the right thing. Dillo the armadillo and Vaca the Tapir are the spirit guide for Ainbo, they will always be around when she needs them, bringing plenty of laughs to the story, that will often break the serious side of the story. Zumo is the best friend of Ainbo, she is about to become the leader of the tribe, she does need to make her mark on the tribe, which will push the friendships to a new level. Atok is the warrior that has always tried to defend the local area, no matter how difficult the situation might well be.

StoryThe story here follows a young girl that finds herself needing to go on a spiritual journey to save her tribe from an illness, while her best friend is trying to find her place in control, when an evil finds its way towards the tribe. This story will easily get compared to Moana or Brave, with the adventure side of things, I would like to throw in Ferngully The Last Rainforest, with the dark side of the what is happening to the rainforest. The idea that somebody must learn about their past to save their future will always be a driving force for a story, with this being a perfect choice for pushing that through. The story has so much heart and soul about protecting people and what we have, needing to work together, despite differences and most of all, believing in your friends.

ThemesAinbo: Spirit of the Amazon is an animated adventure that will see Ainbo travel through the rainforest on her spirit quest, meeting animals that will guide her to the truth, to help protect her, each location is used to show where you would imagine that animal living, only enhanced. The animation looks beautiful, like most films in this generation. The only thing you are expecting from the style choices here, is them all breaking out into song.

Signature Entertainment presents Ainbo: Spirit of the Amazon in Cinemas Nationwide from 27th August

Final Thoughts Ainbo: Spirit of the Amazon is a beautiful animation, filled with all the heart and soul you need for a strong story.

ABC Film Challenge – Sports – U – Undefeated (2011) Movie Review

Director: Daniel Lindsay, T.J. Martin

Plot: Chronicles three underprivileged students from inner-city Memphis and their volunteer coach who tries to help them beat the odds on and off the field.

Tagline – The game is the easy part.

Runtime: 1 Hour 53 Minutes

There may be spoilers in the rest of the review

Story: Undefeated starts as we learn about the Manassa Tigers Football Team where the volunteer coach Bill Courtney is trying to get the losing streak of the team back, trying to teach discipline to his team in a neighbourhood where they don’t believe they have a chance to escape.

We follow the season where we will see the ups and downs, the education the players need to learn and how they can improve not just the team, but themselves by learning to work together for the greater good.

Thoughts on Undefeated

ThoughtsUndefeated is a sports documentary following one season for an American Football high school team, one that comes from a neighbourhood which doesn’t give the kids much of a chance of a future, where the kids can come from broken homes that can’t even consider affording college education and shows us how they look to come together to break and losing streak, learning to work together in the process. Sport has always been a way to bring people together to help each other achieve something out of life, this will highlight that as we see just how far the kids come from fighting between then, to supporting each other through hard times, getting what they deserve from their hard work. It isn’t just the players that learn it is the coach who is using his life experiences to guide them, while learning he isn’t given his own family the time. If we do get into the weaknesses in the film, it would have to be not knowing how often there is between games, knowing next to nothing about America Football, I wasn’t sure if this was a whole school year or just a few months.

Undefeated is an inspiration story about working together to achieve more, even if the results aren’t always going in your favour, learning life lessons through sport.

The Night House (2020) Movie Review ‘Truly Terrifying’

The Night House – Truly Terrifying

Director: David Bruckner

Plot: A widow begins to uncover her recently deceased husband’s disturbing secrets.

Runtime: 1 Hour 48 Minutes

Story: The Night House starts as we meet the grieving widow Beth (Hall) looking to start the next stage of her life after her husband’s Owen (Jonigkeit) suicide. Staying in the couple’s remote lake house, it isn’t long before Beth starts hearing noises around the home, with an unsettling presence being felt, could it be Owen returning to Beth with a final message, or is it Beth dealing with the grief in her own way.

Thoughts on The Night House

Characters & Performances – Beth is the grieving widow that is trying to put the piece together what happened in her husband’s suicide, while learning secrets from his life, leaving asking even more questions about what happened. Beth has a natural humoured filled defence to what happened, which she uses around her friends to cover up the pain she is going through. She does tend to experience most of the haunting events after having too many drinks, which will give Beth a fresh approach to dealing with noises from around the house. Rebecca Hall gives us a tremendous performance in the leading role, she gives us what feels like a natural reaction to the type of death, one that is filled with nearly every top of defence to what happened, or desperation to learn the truth. Claire is the best friend, looking to support Beth in her time of need, she does her best to give her space, while also wanting to make sure she is safe. Sarah Goldberg does give us one of the best supporting character performances in a horror in years, never taking centre stage, while also written smartly to not be in the middle of the horror events. We do get other supporting characters, some will hold answers to Owen’s secrets, while Owen himself is just as an important character, leaving us wondering as to what happened to him.

StoryThe story here follows a grieving widow that finds herself getting visits from an unknown presence after her husband’s suicide, leaving her wondering what happened to him, learning more about the secrets he kept. This story does start with the simple idea of a widow being weak to letting an unknown presence into their live, an idea which has been used many times, somebody with an emotional impact in their lives, can become an easy target for supernatural. Where this film goes in a new direction, comes with the idea that this could well be a visit from a lost husband, a spirit that doesn’t look to target the victim, rather than befriend. We have the mystery about what might have been happening, which will only add more to what caused the sudden suicide, leaving us going into a direction we never imagined. The story is filled with tension, suspense, and more terror, as we wait to see just what the signs to the truth are.

ThemesThe Night House is a horror film that will lead us down the path of a ghost sending messages to a victim that will them to the truth about what has been happening in life. Each scene is filled with horror, be it the jump scares, or just the pure intensity about what could happen next. The location is just as important of a location, as it will build to different sightings, forcing us to want to check every single corner of the screen.

Final Thoughts The Night House is a truly terrifying horror film that will stick with you long after you leave the cinema, checking every corner of every room.
