Verdict: Fun Sci-fi Godzilla Movie

Story: Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters starts as we dive into the future, Godzilla has taken over the world and the human race has been driven into space, Haruo Sakaki gives us the lesson as he waits in jail after not following orders, he wants to go and fight Godzilla back on Earth, with Metphies guiding him through his choice.

Failing to find a new home, Metphies talks the higher ups to return to Earth to defeat Godzilla once and for to take back the planet with Haruo leading the charge.

Thoughts on Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters

Characters – Haruo Sakaki saw the Earth taken over by Godzilla as a young boy, he has grown up to want to defeat Godzilla learning a method that was planned before, he goes against orders to keep people alive leaving him in jail, though when they return to Earth he leads the mission against Godzila. Metphies is the religious figure on the ship, he listens to Haruo’s plan talking the commanders into returning to Earth for the battle. Yuko Tani is the young lady that has always stood by Haruo, she joins the mission on the Earth next to him. Godzilla is the king of the monster ruling Earth with a deadly method.

StoryThe story here follows the last remaining human survivors who return to Earth to fight Godzilla, who has taken over the planet. The movie takes us well into the future, the battle itself is 10,000 in the future which takes away any sort of confusion between the two different universes Godzilla is in right now. The preparation to the battle is the main focus which for the most part is good and fills the boxes you would expect to see from them, this helps show us just where the battle will take place and just what it means for the dwindling number of humans. For a Godzilla based movie this is great fun story showing us how deadly it can be.

Sci-FiThe sci-fi side of the film puts us in the future against Godzilla in a battle that puts us in the middle of a sci-fi monster movie.

SettingsThe film takes place partial in space and partial on a future Earth that has been destroyed after humans were forced to leave, the future look of the planet show how it could survive without humans being involved.

AnimationThe animation standard for this film is great quality, it plays into the modern computer version with have been used for the Resident Evil movies over the pure anime ones.

Scene of the Movie –
The battle.

That Moment That Annoyed Me The time jump is over dramatic.

Final ThoughtsThis is a fun sci-fi movie circling around Godzilla an icon of cinema, giving the opportunity to give us a bigger story without the mindless destruction the live action films give us.

Overall: Great beginning to a new Godzilla saga.

Verdict: Simple Romance Between Friends

Story: Very Good Girls starts as we met two teenagers Lilly (Fanning) and Gerri (Olsen) who are spending the final summer together before they move onto college. With life problems they are facing they do have each other to keep themselves together and make a pact to lose their virginity before they head off to college.

The two friends both fall for the same street artist David (Holbrook) ad between them they both get a different life change experience through the summer.

Thoughts on Very Good Girls

Characters – Lilly is the quieter of the two friends, we follow her life with her parents fighting, her job before college and what it was like for her to meet her first love before college, she is trying to hold her family together while not telling Gerri al the details of her life. Gerri is the best friend of Lilly, she tends to do all the talking for the two, she wants David but this summer she must deal with her own personal tragedy. David is the street artist that both the girls fall for, he fits the mysterious figure that can draw the attention of the girls. We do have the parents through the situations the girls are going through too.

PerformancesDakota Fanning is solid enough for this role, she doesn’t do anything wrong, but compared to Olsen for age, there are little elements that show her lack of life experience for this film. Olsen is good she is showing us just capable of filling almost any role in a film here. Boyd Holbrook is good even if he does feel slightly too old for this role which sums up the weakness to a lot of the performances, the age of the leading three is too wide with them meant to be around the same age.

StoryThe story here gives us a coming of age tale between the two friends in their final summer before going of to college. The story does touch on real life situations which could need a best friend to be by your side. We get to see how love can push the boundaries of friendships and how hard life can be when you start to realize that college is the next chapter of life that will big the biggest step you will take and nothing will truly prepare you for it.

RomanceThe romance in the film shows us how two friends can have their friendship pushed to the limits when they both fall for the same boy.

SettingsNew York is a setting that I will always praise for the quality for any setting in the story of growing up, finding yourself.

That Moment That Annoyed Me The two girls don’t seem to have any other friends.

Final ThoughtsThis is a simple coming of age movie, it fits the check list well, has good acting but by the ending you will feel we needed that one more spark.

Overall: Simple Coming of Age
