Episode 15 – Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?
Couch Gag – This time Maggie pops out of Marge’s hair.
Plot Synopsis – After Grampa is hospitalized, he reveals that Homer has a half-brother, and the family soon discovers the brother, named Herb, owns a car company. However Herb’s hiring of Homer to design a new car may be his undoing.
What is going on really – We start with a McBain movie that is a clear piss take of Arnie with Grampa Simpson and Jasper both hating the movie and complaining only to have a heart attack.
This leads to Grampa Simpson confessing to having an affair before he got married to Homer’s mother leading to Homer going on a mission to find his lost half-brother.
After finding Herbert the family head to Detroit to meet only to learn that Herbert owns his own motor company richer beyond anything Homer can believe.
Herbert gives Homer a chance to help design his latest car, with the car is designed it ends up ruining Herbert leading to the two going their separate ways for good.
Danny DeVito as Herb Powell
Final Thoughts – This is an episode that deals with the idea that we might not know all our family. We also get a few looks at the modern cars of today with Homer’s design sequences showing just how the show always seemed to know the future. But overall this episode did lack that final punch I felt it could have had.
