Halloween II (1981)

logoDirector: Rick Rosenthal

Writer: John Carpenter, Debra Hill (Screenplay)

Starring: Jamie Lee Curtis, Donald Pleasence, Charles Cyphers, Jeffrey Kramer, Lance Guest, Pamela Susan Shoop, Hunter von Leer, Dick Warlock

Plot: It’s the same night as the original Halloween. Michael Myers is around the neighbourhood, after being gunned by Dr.Loomis six times. Now, he’s in a hospital where the girl Laurie Strode was taken. And there’s a reason why Michael is after her…

Verdict: It Wasn’t Over

Story: It was hard to pick how to rate this because I thought the story was rather boring behind the stalking as the suspense seems to have been lost. I did like the revelation that Laurie is Michael younger sister and that Loomis didn’t know this. It comes a bit late into the story because you have met another series of unlikeable characters to be picked off by Michael while he hunts down Laurie. In the end it loses what was created in the first film which is rather disappointing but it would be hard to follow up what the first one had. (5/10)

Actor Review

Jamie Lee Curtis: Laurie who is taken to hospital after her ordeal with Michael, but while she rests Michael is searching for her and she tries to escape before it is too late. Most of this film she is either led down or hobbling away from Michael, she doesn’t give a performance that will really be remembered. (5/10)

Donald Pleasence: Dr Loomis still trying to figure out where Michael is going as well as talking the Police that he is still at large, he defies orders to final put a stop to Michael rampage. Good performance but why won’t anyone listen to him? (7/10)

Director Review: Rick Rosenthal – Loses a lot of the suspense built up in the first film, doesn’t create any characters who will stick with you either. (4/10)

Horror: Not to the level you would expect. (4/10)

Thriller: Lacks suspense which you would expect from the original Halloween saga. (3/10)

Settings: Good settings used with most being in the hospital with the trimmed number of staff. (7/10)

Suggestion: If you see it on late one night you could give it a go but don’t think it will anywhere near the level of the first one. (Late Night TV Try)

Best Part: Building the family connection.

Worst Part: The rest

Kill Of The Film: A nurse gets an interesting kill with good effects used.

Believability: No (0/10)

Chances of Tears: No (0/10)

Chances of Sequel: They did make more

Post Credits Scene: No

Oscar Chances: No

Box Office: $25.5 Million

Budget: $2.5 Million

Runtime: 1 Hour 33 Minutes

Tagline: He came back to finish what they’ll never forget.

Overall: Disappoint Sequel

Rating 50

  1. You blasphemer! lol I love this film. Works so seamlessly with the first film. I’ll admit, it’s basically more of the same, in a hospital, with slightly more intense kills scenes, but it’s also one of those REALLY rare sequels that actually feels completely faithful to its predecessor. Adore this movie.

    • I have many reason why i didn’t enjoy, first i think i watched this last of all the Michael Myers Halloween films so i have got used to a random level of horror. if i had watched them all in order i might have enjoyed it more but i only saw the original Halloween for first time with the last 5 years
